Any contaminated, expired, or discontinued medication, whether prescription or over-the-counter, and topical substances shall be returned to the child’s parents or guardians whenever possible or, if belonging to the program, disposed of properly by authorized staff.
The licensing coordinator observed expired medications, including Benadryl, Infant Motrin, and an EpiPen, in the Toddler classroom for a child currently enrolled in the program. Corrective action: The expired medication was returned to parents that afternoon. In the future, one designated staff member in each room will be responsible for checking medications and separating any expired items to be returned to parents.
