Any contaminated, expired, or discontinued medication, whether prescription or over-the-counter, and topical substances shall be returned to the child’s parents or, if belonging to the program, disposed of properly by authorized staff.
The licensing coordinator observed an epinephrine autoinjector at the program, which had expired in December 2024 and was not returned to the child's parent or guardian. Corrective action: Program Director reviewed the medication licensing rules with the Site Director. She will check in monthly with the Site Director to make sure that any medication that is expired goes home to the parent upon expiration. Expired medication will be kept in separate secure location away from current medication until it can be given to the parents.
