The program shall post each allergy care plan in accordance with the posting requirements in He-C 4002.14.
The program self-reported that a child with a known allergy was unintentionally exposed to the allergen, which they ingested, resulting in an allergic reaction that necessitated administration of an Epi-Pen and transport to the emergency room. The child was exposed to the allergen when a staff member retrieved and served the allergen to the child. Corrective action: 1. A list of every child with a know allergen in the school is posted in each classroom. This list was implemented when we had our first child with a know allergen and is updated as know allergens are communicated from parents. If a child has an allergen that requires an Allergy Action Plan a picture of that child and his/her Allergy Action Plan is posted on the outside of the kitchen cabinet door closest to the food preparation area of the classroom. Starting July 1, 2024 we no longer provide milk at the school and children's parents provide all food to children with the exception of classroom activities. If there is a classroom activity that involves food and there is a child in the class with a known allergy to the food involved in the activity, a child's parents may bring in an alternative food for the activity. If so the following protocol will be followed: 1. Initial staff member will look at and say out loud verbal verification to a second staff member that the food or drink is labeled with the child's name on it. 2. The initial staff member will hand the item with the child's name on it to a second staff member. At that time the second staff member will look at the item and verbally verify to the initial staff member that the child's name is on it and then it may be given to the child.
