Child care staff shall supervise every child in care at all times.
The complainant reported that Staff D leaves their classroom, located on the second floor, unsupervised during naptime, while going to the first floor of the program. Staff D confirmed that they have left their classroom unattended for up to 5 minutes to go to the first floor. Staff D added they leave their classroom door open and that staff from the Toddler classroom watch the children through the viewing window. The licensing coordinator observed that there is a viewing window in the Preschool classroom, as well as a viewing window in the Toddler classroom, however the windows are separated by a staircase, diminishing visibility. The licensing coordinator determined that staff in the Toddler classroom would not be able to immediately respond to children in the Preschool classroom, when Staff D leaves the classroom and by Staff D leaving the classroom for up to 5 minutes that children are not adequately supervised. Corrective action: All staff are required to ask school floater or director to cover for any time out of the classroom.
