The Office of Child Care Licensing (OCCL) received a complaint on August 9, 2022, regarding staff not following the guidelines of the National Weather Service concerning a heat advisory. An investigation was conducted on August 11, 2022. The complaint was substantiated because the administrator confirmed she and two staff took a group of children outside for a walk that lasted approximately five minutes during a heat advisory.

Governing Body; A licensee shall have an organized system of business management and have sufficient staff, space, an equipment to fulfill at a minimum administrative, fiscal, clerical, cleaning, maintenance, food services, direct child care, and supervisory functions. Owner/Administrator had to cover in the infant room, and was unable to fulfill administrative requirements. Ensure Center has sufficient staff if a staff member calls out sick.
Ensure EC Administrator has 15 hours of training in school-age care. Submit trainings to DEEDS for School-Age Specialized Training for the Administrator.
Personnel files; Ensure all personnel files are complete. Staff #4 needs to take administration of medication course. Send to OCCL when complete.
Professional Development Plan; Ensure all professional development plans are signed by the administrator. Staff #2,5,6 did not have a signed professional development plan. This was corrected a the visit.
Ensure hazardous materials are inaccessible to children in care. Toilet bowl brush with holder was accessible to an infant. Send documentation that toilet brush, and holder are no longer accessible to children.
Sleeping Accommodations; Ensure mattresses have firm, tight-fitting sheets. All cribs in the infant room had loose sheets. This was corrected at the visit when the administrator changed the sheets to tightly fitted sheets that were the size of the mattress.
Feeding of Infants; Ensure all infants in care have a written feeding schedule with monthly updated parent signatures. Send to OCCL when complete. Ensure all infant bottles are labeled. Send pictures to OCCL when complete.
Provided Required Interactions with Infants; Ensure Staff #6 carries infants properly when holding them. LS Brady observed Staff #6 carrying an infant by the arm while carrying another infant child. Staff #6 needs to take Better Kid Care's Infant-Toddler Care; Safety by November 15, 2022
Documenting Children's Progress; Ensure Infant and toddler development plans, as well as all children in care have a completed development plan in their file. Administrator was unable to access teaching strategies to show developmental plans were complete. Send documentation of development plans for children #1-12 to OCCL by November 15, 2022.
Ensure there are no objects less than one inch in diameter in the Infant & Toddler room. LS Brady observed a paperclip being taken out of an infant's mouth. Staff #6 is to take Better Kid Care's Course Infant-Toddler Care; Safety by November 15, 2022
Ensure supervision of children and direct observation of children is provided at all times. An infant child climbed up on an adult chair, and an infant child crawled over to the bathroom, opened the bathroom door, went into the bathroom, and was playing with the toilet brush and holder. Please have Staff #6 take Better Kid Care-Infant-Toddler Care; Quality Supervision course by November 15, 2022.
