Medications such as insulin, inhalers, and epi pens shall be readily accessible to child care staff caring for children requiring such medications, to assure timely administration when needed and in accordance with parental instructions in He-C 4002.20(g)(2)a.

The licensing coordinator observed children’s EpiPens remained inside the Yellow and Early Preschool Classrooms while the children requiring the medication went outside to the playground. Corrective action: We stored the EpiPens in the classrooms in cabinets with the labels on it. However, per the licensing coordinator's suggestions, we have kept it in the emergency backpacks and carry those bags with us indoors and outdoors. Moving forward, we will keep those EpiPens handy for the allergic children.

A written record of a health screening for all child care staff, household members and other individuals who have 5 or more hours per week of contact with children shall: (1) Be on file at the program and available for review by the department for all child care staff within 60 days of the date of hire or the date the household member or individual begins having daily contact with children; and (2) Include, at a minimum, the information on the “Child Care Personnel Health Form” (11/2017) provided by the department, or its equivalent.

The licensing coordinator’s review of five staff records revealed three staff, employed at the program more than 60 days, did not have a health screening on file. Corrective action: We check the expired staff documents every quarter and inform them to have the latest documents on file. The staff whose health forms have expired will soon submit new ones. Moving forward, we will ensure the updated health screenings are on file.
