Any contaminated, expired, or discontinued medication, whether prescription or over-the-counter, and topical substances shall be returned to the child’s parents or, if belonging to the program, disposed of properly by authorized staff.
The licensing coordinator observed an expired epi-pen in Classroom 9 that was not returned to the child's parent as required. Corrective action: The expired Epi Pen was returned to the parent on 9/7/23. All staff members were reminded via email that moving forward, they need to check the expiration date of the medication inside of the box against the prescription date on the outside of the box. If the dates differ, the earlier date needs to be marked on the outside of box. All medication is check monthly.
