All center directors, agency administrators, site coordinators, or site directors, and all other child care staff who are responsible for the supervision of children, or who are necessary for the staff to child ratios, shall keep on file documentation of completion of a minimum of 6 hours of professional development, which shall be completed in accordance with the following: (1)  Within 90 days of the first date of employment; (2) Within 2 weeks for programs operating 3 months of the year or less; or (3) By providing documentation of previous completion.

The licensing coordinator's review of five staff files revealed that one staff did not complete the minimum of 6 hours of professional development within 90 days of the first date of employment. Corrective action: The teacher was instructed to complete the 2 missing Pro Solutions courses that should have been taken in the first 90 days of employment. The director is reviewing all employee files to make sure all required courses have been completed. A spread sheet listing each course was created to record completed courses. And, if necessary direct any employee with missing courses to complete them. Recognizing and Reporting Suspected Child Abuse in NH was completed on 9/29/2024. Food Allergies: Recognizing Allergic Reactions and Meal Planning in Child Care and Afterschool Settings was completed on 10/1/2024. Citations were corrected within a week.

Authorized staff shall complete training in medication safety and administration every 3 years.

The licensing coordinator's review of five staff files revealed one staff that is authorized to administer medication had not completed the training in medication safety and administration within the past 3 years. Corrective action: To correct the citation, the teacher went home and took the Pro-Solutions class on “Administering Medication in Child Care Settings” that same day. The director has created a spreadsheet to monitor when staff need to take the “Authorization to Administer Medication” course. The director will let the staff member(s) at least 1 month in advance of their training expiring. After a week the director will talk with them directly to create a plan to complete the PD hours. The plan should take no more than 3 days. If the PD hours have not been completed at the end of the 3 days, disciplinary action will be started.

Corrective action: We now have, as part of our on-boarding process, a requirement to complete Pro-Solutions’ “New Hampshire Health & Safety Training Program” (9 hours), prior to their first day of work. Certificates or a Pro-Solutions transcript will need to be turned in to verify the training completion. The Director maintains a spreadsheet to keep track of completed professional developmental hours for each year. Teachers are asked to turn in proof of taking a course immediately after completing it. Teachers are also reminded at each monthly staff meeting. If a teacher is not making adequate progress with their PD hours, an email reminder will be sent to them. After a week the director will talk with them directly to create a plan to complete the PD hours. The plan should take no more than 3 days. If the PD hours have not been completed at the end of the 3 days, disciplinary action will be started.
