The program shall obtain the following documents from the parents or guardians of each child with a food allergy or other allergy, which results in a serious reaction: A written care plan that includes instructions regarding food(s) or other allergens to which the child is allergic and steps for child care staff to take to avoid the allergens.
The licensing coordinator’s observation that there was no care plan or treatment plan for a child in the Preschool classroom with a known serious food allergy that requires medication. Corrective action: The center has implemented a requirement that all children with known allergies or medical conditions must have a completed and current individualized care plan on file and in ProCare prior to attendance. Staff have been retrained on allergy awareness, documentation requirements, and emergency medication procedures, including the use of epinephrine auto-injectors when applicable. Administrative staff will conduct routine file audits to ensure all required medical documentation is complete, current, and readily accessible to classroom staff at all times.
