Any contaminated, expired, or discontinued medication, whether prescription or over-the-counter, and topical substances shall be returned to the child’s parents or guardians whenever possible or, if belonging to the program, disposed of properly by authorized staff.
The licensing coordinator observed an Epi-pen that expired August 2025 which was not returned to the parent/guardian or disposed of by an authorized staff member. Corrective action: Parent was spoken to about the epi-pen and was waiting to receive the new one from the Dr. The out of date epi-pen was returned to the parent and they were told the child could not return until the new epi-pen was provided. The Site Director was given a refresher on medication rules. The Program Director re-trained the SD to check medications each month and return them to parents or dispose of them if they are out of date to stay in compliance with licensing rules.
