Child care staff shall ensure that the presence of pets in the program does not present a hazard to the children, including but not limited to: Reptiles, amphibians, and birds, including baby chicks and ducklings, shall not be permitted in rooms or outdoor spaces regularly occupied by children.
The licensing coordinator observed that chicks and ducklings were present in the classroom. Corrective action: Moving forward, chicks and ducklings will only come into the classroom for short visits. If they are at school for a school day, they will be kept in the hall and only allowed in the room for short, supervised visits. Students and staff will be required to wash hands after handling the chicks and ducks. Incubators will also be kept in the hall and will be out of reach for the children. The children will always be supervised while handing the chicks and ducks and while observing the incubator.
