Child care staff shall ensure that potentially harmful items, including but not limited to matches, lighters, chemicals, materials labeled “harmful if swallowed,” flammable materials, sharp objects, and staffs’ personal belongings are locked or inaccessible to children.

The licensing coordinator observed two pairs of adult scissors and one kitchen knife located on a desk that was approximately 30 inches from the floor in the lower/back portion of the school-age room. A review of department records revealed the program had corrected this non-compliance at the visit during the April 20, 2022 monitoring visit. Corrective action: The scissors and knife were immediately placed on top of the refrigerator which is out of reach of the children. The items have since been place in a container with a snap top and placed on a shelf out of reach of children where they will remain.
