Fall zones adequate depth of impact absorbing material
Playground free from hazards; fenced if applicable
During the visit the pirate ship structure had a bridge that has posts and ropes for the children to climb to access the top, during the visit the posts were loose and could be a potential hazard to children if they become loose and break while a child is using that ramp.
During the visit there were several areas that need to be addressed in the outdoor space: 1.) The pea gravel measured at 8.5 inches in the area measured, 9 inches is required (at 8.5 digging became difficult and that is due to the material becoming compacted). 2.) The middle structure had peeling paint, weathered wood and exposed nails. 3.) The balance beam was weathered. 4.) The castle did not have six feet clearance for a fall zone and was altered by the program. 5.) The red shed doors were weathered with wood that could be a potential hazard to children. 6.) The wooden fence behind the sandbox is extremely weathered with missing pieces. 7.) The green fence had an area that was broken and had an opening big enough for a child to escape.
