The provider was reminded the License Rules and Regulation for incident reporting. 2. The provider was reminded suspected child abuse should be reported immediately to the proper authorities. If any violations were received, details can be observed in the compliance details section of the visit along with corresponding corrective action plans. 1240-04-01-.15 PROGRAM, LANGUAGE, AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT. Video footage revealed inappropriate discipline was used. Compliance requires children to be disciplined in positive, non-punitive ways that help them develop the inner controls needed to manage their own behavior in a socially acceptable manner. Compliance also requires policies in place by management prohibiting staff from using any behavior management techniques that are verbally or physically cruel, harsh, abusive, humiliating, shaming, frightening, or injurious to children. Discipline is the most effective when it is consistent, reinforces desired behavior and offers natural and logical consequences the child can understand based on his/her age and development. Positive methods of discipline help guide children toward self-discipline and independence. It occurs in a constructive and supportive environment that often involves redirection of behavior, problem solving, labeling of emotions, modeling words to express one's wishes, and teaching conflict resolution skills, prior to disciplining a child for an unacceptable behavior. Positive discipline helps a child to gain control over his or he behavior or emotions. A goal of positive discipline is to have the child feel he/she is an important and valued individual who can handle another similar incident successfully. It is not punishment. Positive discipline builds on the strengths of the child and the positive behavior he or she needs to demonstrate. 1240-04-01-.09 INCIDENT REPORTING. An incident report was not completed on the same day of an incident. (1) Reports of Incidents, Illnesses, Accidents, Injuries, and Fatalities. (a) Incidents, accidents, injuries, and signs of illness shall be reported to the parent/guardian no later than the child's release to the parent/guardian or authorized representative on the date of occurrence. (b) Serious injuries or signs of serious illness shall be reported to the parent/guardian immediately. (c) The child care agency shall not delay seeking emergency treatment due to a delay in contacting the parent/guardian. (d) Incidents, accidents, injuries, and signs of serious illness to children shall be documented immediately with the following information: 1. Child's name and date of birth; 2. Name of the person writing the report; 3. Date and time; 4. Date and time of completion of incident report; 5. Description of incident and circumstances; and 6. Action(s) taken by the child care agency. (e) The documentation shall be provided to the parent/guardian the same day of the incident, and filed in the child's record. (f) The child care agency shall notify the Department of all serious incidents the same day of the incident, by emailing or calling the Complaint Hotline or making the submission through the provider portal.
