Summary of Complaint Investigation Visit The visit conducted today included monitoring of the agency's compliance with Licensing Rules and Regulations and an investigation of a complaint]. This agency self-reported that a classroom of 2.5-3-year-old children were left with no educator supervising them for approximately a minute and a half

Child was alone for a little over 9 minutes before being found. 1240-04-01-.11 SUPERVISION Corrective Action: Agency will not longer prop exterior doors open to allow children access to classrooms when on playground. See Below for Detailed Information Observation: PE, Cline conducted an unannounced visit at Kiddie Academy of Brentwood on 4/4/22 after Director, Jennifer Winkle called and stated an educator came to her and reported that she had observed an educator discipline a 2-year-old inappropriately. The two-year-old child had hit another child with a doll. The educator then got the doll and tapped the child on the head and told him, “No, we don’t hit our friends.” The child did not cry and there was no redness or marks. Due to this action being against center policy, the educator was terminated. This was reported to the father at pick up. This incident was reported to DCS and was screened out as Does not meet the definition of abuse or neglect as established by Tennessee Law and Rules. As a result of this complaint the following violations were cited: 1240-04-01-.15 PROGRAM, LANGUAGE, AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT (5) Behavior Management and Guidance (a) Behavioral interventions shall be developmentally appropriate, with consideration given to the attention spans and skills of individual children. (b) Discipline shall be reasonable, appropriate, and in terms the child can understand. (c) Potentially shaming, humiliating, frightening, verbally abusive, injurious discipline methods, and/or techniques that isolate the child are prohibited. (e) Spanking and all types of corporal punishment are prohibited (h) The educator shall address each incident of unacceptable behavior by using methods of positive guidance and discipline to help the child manage his/her behavior. (i) Each time a child is engaging in unacceptable behavior the educator shall first redirect the child’s attention and substitute a desirable activity prior to disciplining the child.
