Programs shall provide toys, equipment, furniture, and learning materials that are: (1) Age and developmentally appropriate; (2) Of sufficient quantity and variety to meet the needs of the children cared for in the program; (3) Available and accessible to children; and (4) Cleaned on a regular basis.

The licensing coordinator observed that in the Toddler One classroom were two fabric dolls which were visibly soiled and demonstrated a lack of regular cleaning. Corrective action: The two dolls were immediately removed on 07/17/24 and were thrown away. The remaining dolls were also removed from the center and washed that evening on 07/17/24. The washed dolls were returned to the program on 07/22/24. A new protocol was reviewed with staff on 7/26/24: All fabric toys/classroom materials (to include but not limited to: towels, blankets, puppets, dress-up clothes, nap mats, bibs, boppy covers, extra crib sheets, etc.) must be sent home with the Director every other Friday to be washed, or more often if/when needed. This policy will be reviewed again with staff as well as new staff during the first staff meeting of the new school year in September of 2024.

All medication shall be: (1) Inaccessible to children; (2) Stored at the temperature and conditions recommended by the manufacturer or as directed on the prescription label; (3) Stored in a secondary container separate from food if in a refrigerator; and (4) Labeled with the child’s name to ensure correct identification of each child’s medication.

The licensing coordinator observed a prescription medication in a staff's bag on a table measuring approximately 29 ½ inches from the floor, where it was accessible to children in the Preschool classroom. The staff immediately moved the bag and medication to the office. Additionally, in the Preschool classroom was one Epi-Pen not labeled with the child’s name to ensure correct identification of the child’s medication. Corrective action: In addition to the staff member (who is not usually in this classroom) immediately removing the her personal bag and medication out of the room which children were not in at the time it was discovered, a new protocol was reviewed with staff on 7/26/24: All of the staff's personal bags/purses/belongings must be kept out of reach of children on a high shelf or in a locked closet/area that children do not have access to. Although the Epi-Pen in the preschool classroom was in a clearly labeled container with the child’s name and the appropriate paperwork inside, the Epi-Pen did not have the child’s name directly on the pen itself. A new protocol was reviewed with staff on 7/26/24: When a new Epi-Pen or a renewal Epi-Pen is accepted into the program, it MUST be labeled with the child’s name on the epi-pen itself. The center Director AND classroom teacher need to check to make sure that the container and pen are labeled with the child’s name and the appropriate paperwork is included before it is to be placed in a classroom. These policies will be reviewed again with staff as well as new staff during the first staff meeting of the new school year in September of 2024.
