The program shall maintain daily child attendance records, in either paper or electronic format, including the child’s full name, date of birth, and their arrival and departure times in the program and each room or group throughout the day, as applicable, recorded in real time by staff or parents.
The licensing coordinator’s review of the daily staff attendance records for March 7, 2025 through March 14, 2025 revealed that the records did not include staff’s scheduled work hours and staff positions as identified under He-C 4002, and that staff are not signing in and out of classrooms as required each day upon arrival and departure, and throughout the day as they move to different classes, such as to cover breaks. Staff A, present in the Preschool classroom during the visit, was not signed in, and was not signed in or out of the Preschool classroom on March 12 or March 13. Staff E, present in the Toddler 2 classroom during the visit, was not signed in, and was not signed in or out of the Toddler 2 classroom on March 13. Staff F, present in the Pre-Kindergarten classroom during the visit, was not signed in, and Staff G did not sign out of the Pre-Kindergarten classroom on March 13. Additionally, Staff A stated that Staff B worked in the classroom with them during the week of March 10 through March 14, but did not sign in or out, and that Staff C does not sign in or out of the classroom when covering scheduled breaks. Staff D stated that Staff C does not sign in or out of the Infant classroom when covering breaks. Staff C confirmed that they do not sign in or out of the classroom when covering staff breaks and that staff sometimes forget to sign in and out of the classrooms. Corrective action: Newton Learning Center has reviewed the current staff attendance records and identified gaps in the sign-in/sign-out process. NLC will establish a formal policy regarding staff attendance records, including the staff’s full name, scheduled work hours, and their position. This policy applies to all staff members at Newton Learning Center, including current and new employees. For new staff, attendance training will be provided as part of their onboarding process. The Director will monitor compliance with the staff attendance records by conducting random checks, and ensuring all staff members are signing in/out during their scheduled shifts, and when moving amongst classrooms. Any gaps or issues identified in the sign-in/sign-out process will be addressed immediately. Corrective action for non-compliance will be implemented, effective Monday, March 17th, 2025.
