Non-toxic materials labeled “keep out of reach of children” shall only be used during a teacher-directed activity.
The licensing coordinator observed items labelled "keep out of reach of children", including two cans of shaving cream and one can of disinfecting spray located on the back of the toilet in the staff bathroom, which was open and accessible to children, and a bag of potting soil on the children’s hand washing sink in the Tigers classroom. The Center director moved the shaving cream and disinfecting spray out of reach of the children during the visit, and the licensing coordinator moved the bag of potting soil. Corrective action: The bathroom is located outside the classroom in an area not accessed by children. The door was open at the time, both the shaving cream and disinfecting spray were moved to a high shelf inaccessible to children. The door does have a note reminding staff to keep the door closed and were reminded to be more mindful going forward. The potting soil was used for a gardening project that morning and the licensing coordinator moved it out of reach. The staff member returned the soil to storage out of reach of children mid day. The CCLU licensing coordinator was wonderful and incredibly supportive. We plan on staying in compliance by regularly checking in on staff and reminding them of the safety protocol. The bathroom door has a sign stating to "keep shut" and an additional sign was placed on the upper shelf within the bathroom reminding staff to put all "keep out of reach from children" on the upper safety shelf.
