8VAC20-790-260-A · Areas and equipment of the family day home, inside and outside, shall be maintained in a clean, safe, and operable condition.

Kitchen: Visible food debris, crumbs and trash were observed on the counters, under appliances and on the floor. The backsplash had areas of smeared, dried and hardened insect repellant. Deck: The deck in the backyard had multiple deck floor boards that were buckled, not secured to the deck frame and were protruding upward. The deck railing and handrail at the steps were splintering, loose and easily moved by hand when the inspectors touched them. A non-working mid-size refrigerator was on the deck and not secured in a manner that prevented access by children. Backyard area: In the grass area surrounding the deck were many wood boards with nails protruding while additional boards and large wood panels were learning against the house adjacent to the deck, as was a double kitchen sink. A large section of the backyard fence (6' wooden fence) was missing and allowing direct access to a neighboring yard. A rolled up rug was under a bush in the backyard and 3 lawnmowers were accessible to children in the yard.
