CI 1.7: Building and physical premises safety

The indoor areas, especially the diapering area, are very cluttered with extra materials. In addition, the following issues were observed on the playground: The climbing equipment has a small amount of wood chunks. The wood chunks are not considered an acceptable resilient surface. Portable equipment is not anchored. The orange slide is on grass. There is not enough room for the swings. The blue slide is not 6' from the border.

E 1.3: Sufficient indoor space for children, adults, and furnishings. Ample space for adults and children to move around.

The agency is not accessible to those with disabilities due to the round doorknobs and steps required to enter.

E1.1:Choice/Balance of Teacher & Child initiated activities. (opportunities for children to feel motivated to explore and learn).

The children were required to sit in a group at 10:30 a.m. to watch educational videos. They were allowed to select one toy to have with them as they sat. Lunch was not served until 11:00 a.m. When children got up to walk around, they were required to sit back down and stay in the group. The lengthy group time is not developmentally appropriate.

E1.4: Rotation of activities/materials to engage child interest

The children were observed materials. The materials were not removed and swapped for clean ones. The director and LC discussed getting a "yuck" bucket for mouthed materials.

E1.6 Children see and interact with print materials.

The educators did not take the opportunity to point to and talk about displayed print items. In addition, books and other print materials are not integrated into the two smaller play rooms.

Upon arrival, garbage in the play area was full. The playground does not have acceptable fall zones around swings and climbing equipment.

E 2.1: Children's records shall be complete, organized, maintained on- site and available to the Child Care Licensing Consultant at all times.

Children's records were missing the parents work hours and the emergency contacts addresses (home and business or school).

E 2.2: Staff, and driver records contain documentation of all requirements

Staff record was missing the application and emergency contact information.

E 2.3: Substitute and volunteer records shall include hours and dates of service.

Substitute record does not include their name, addresse, telephone number and hours and dates of service.

The educator is not associated with the child care agency in TNPAL. The provider and educator need to upload a copy of their diploma and CPR and First Aid certifications to TNPAL.
