See Below for Detailed Information Chapter 0520-12-01-.09 (5)(a) Discipline shall be reasonable, appropriate, and in terms the children can understand. Chapter 0520-12-01-.09 (5)(b) Discipline that is shaming, humiliating, frightening, verbally abusive, or injurious to children shall not be used. PE received a complaint on 7/12/17 regarding improper discipline. PE made unannounced visit to investigate the complaint on 7/13/17. Director (Gwen Banks) indicated staff member, Rachel Parker, was in the Cascades pool with several children at Splash Country on 7/11/17. After being splashed by children, she began to yell loudly and scold the children for getting her hair wet. Another staff member commented to Rachel about her yelling to which she harshly replied “I’m not yelling at you.” Both the director and assistant director were present during the incident. The director did not confront Ms. Parker at the time in order to prevent causing a scene in front of the children and other waterpark visitors. The director and assistant director planned to speak with Ms. Parker about her behavior before going to the swimming pool on 7/13/17. Ms. Parker has been employed with the program since 8/2016. She has not had other reprimands or complaints (from parents) since being hired. She has completed all required training including program policies, DOE rules, and child abuse training. Program will complete a plan of corrective action and training with Ms. Parker related to appropriate discipline, student interactions, and how to handle various types of behavior. This complaint, along with the training received, will be documented in Ms. Parker’s staff file.
