8.9.4.24 · J OUTDOOR PLAY AREAS
Playground swings equipment is not safe as evidenced by the following: visible cracks, swing seats that are missing, damaged, or loose. IMMEDIATE: Director will prevent children from using the cracked swings until the seats can be replaced. PREVENTATIVE: Director will add checking the swing seats to the weekly playground inspection. MONITORING: Educators will check this during the weekly playground inspections. 8.9.4.24.J.3.:A center shall place sufficient energy absorbing surfaces beneath climbing structures, swings, and slides (as determined by Subsection N of 8.9.4.8 NMAC). Based on the consumer product safety commission (CPSC) playground guidelines, grass, artificial turf, and rubber play mats are not energy absorbent material. Finding The fall zone underneath the swings, slide is not adequate as evidenced by the energy absorbent material is not deep enough. Corrective Action Plan IMMEDIATE: Director will have the energy absorbent material raked before the next time the playground is in use. Director noted that it's been too cold recently for the kids to use the playground. PREVENTATIVE: Director will remind educators to rake the energy absorbent materials as needed. MONITORING: Educators will check for this during the weekly playground inspection.

IMMEDIATE: Director has already contacted a plumber and scheduled them to come out at the end of this month during the center's holiday closure. PREVENTATIVE: Director and educators check for these items during their daily cleaning; educators are aware to notify the Director of any items needing repaired. MONITORING: Director will check fixtures for good repair during the biannual deep cleaning. 8.9.4.29.A.1.:A center shall keep the premises, including furniture, fixtures, floors, drinking fountains, toys and equipment clean, safe, and in good repair. The center and premises shall be free of debris and potential hazards. Finding The furniture in the Dinosaurs classroom are not clean as evidenced by dirt underneath the changing mat. Animals were not properly housed, fed and maintained in a safe, clean, sanitary and humane condition. Turtles tank needs to be cleaned. Tank should be replaced with a larger tank for more humane conditions with the size of the turtles.
