Educators in the Infant - (6 wk. - 12 mo.) class room(s) are not actively engaged with children when two educators were not actively engaged with the infants which resulted in an infant startling a younger infant and hurting him while he was laying down on the gym mat. One educator was changing an infant's diaper, and the other educator was standing by the classroom's door speaking to a parent. During the site visit on 08/03/2023, licensing surveyor observed two educators not engaging with the infants in the classroom which resulted in an incident. While one educator was sanitizing the diaper changing station, the second educator bent over to have better access to the water dispenser to heat up water to make a bottle to feed an infant, they lost eyesight of an infant for approximately 15-25 seconds. The infant walked towards the door and fell through when her older sister opened the door as she was walking with her mother. The educator responded fast to the situation. The center will support educators to ensure active engagement is occurring and policies are being followed; the center will do observations and in-house training and keep documentation. The center has been actively seeking an in-person training on active engagement and active supervision.
