8.9.4.24 · J OUTDOOR PLAY AREAS
The facility’s outdoor play area is not adequately enclosed as evidenced by fencing has openings large enough for a child to crawl or fall through. Opening is large enough for a child's head to fit through. On 6/11/24 the center placed a work order to fix fence. Effective 6/25/24 Center will do weekly reviews of the playground inspection logs. 8.9.4.24.J.3.:A center will place sufficient energy absorbing surfaces beneath climbing structures, swings, and slides (as determined by Subsection N of 8.9.4.8 NMAC). Based on the consumer product safety commission (CPSC) playground guidelines, grass, artificial turf, and rubber play mats are not energy absorbent material. Finding The fall zone underneath the slides is not adequate as evidenced by the absence of energy absorbent material - the surface is rubber play mat. Corrective Action Plan The center will have the mats removed today 6/25/24. Effective 6/25/24 the center will ensure that all slides, play structures, and swings will have adequate energy materials.
