8.9.4.23 · A PERSONNEL AND STAFFING REQUIREMENTS
The child(ren) in the 4 yr. old class room(s) was/were left unattended when the class was coming inside from the playground. The child was left unattended for 40 seconds before an educator found the child.. 8/19/24 The child was reunited with the class and the parents were notified right away. Preventative: The director and the two educators involved spoke about the gravity of the situation, the need to count all children before you transition from one area to another, and how they can double check with one another that everyone is accounted for. The following is the protocol they decided upon. Step 1: Two Minute Warning: Verbally let children know that they have two minutes left to play. Step 2: Gather Up: After the two minutes for play are up, call all children to gather at the bench. Step 3: One educator will conduct “Roll Call” where each student says their name and numbers off. 1,2,3, etc.… Step 4: That educator double checks the ProCare App for all students signed in and makes sure the numbers match. Step 5: The other educator checks all areas of the playground to make sure all children are accounted for and present for ‘Roll Call”. Step 6: The class lines up and conducts “hair stare” where they look at the person’s hair in front of them in line and tells the class what color of hair that child has. Step 7: After all children are accounted for, the class walks from the playground into the building together with one teacher at the front of the group and the other teacher at the back. Compliance Monitoring: During the next month (8/30 – 9/30) the Director and the Curriculum Coordinator will periodically “quiz” all educators on the number of children they have and check the ProCare app to make sure that they are all signed in. The Director and Curriculum Coordinator will also observe transitions to and from the classrooms (all age groups) to ensure that children are being counted and accounted for as they move around the school. This procedure should become second nature to all staff members in the school. We will go over this protocol again at our September Staff Meeting on 9/11/24.
