On the day of the inspection while the staff washed and disinfected tables for snack the children were observed with the hands on the floors and walls while they waited to eat. Staff stated that the children had washed their hands but didn't recognize that they needed to do so again because of the wait and their activity during that waiting time.

Ensure children wash their hands before the intake of food. Interviews revealed that the children are washing their hands before lunch, but observation revealed that the children left the classroom to gather their lunches, and as they waited for the lunches to be warmed up they sat on the floor and proceeded to touch the walls, each other, and the floor. This required the children to wash their hands again before eating. As this was brought to the attention of the assistant director, the staff person was told to wash the children's hands again.

On the day of the inspection supervision was not appropriate. A staff person did not see that two children opened the door to the classroom to walk out. On another occasion a staff person left the classroom with two children to retrieve something from the child's cubby. While in the hallway the young toddler ran away from the teacher and as she ran after the child she left another child alone in the hallway. Another observation revealed that a staff person left the classroom to take a child to the bathroom and she stood in the hallway and did not watch the children. Lastly, a staff person in another classroom was observed leaving the room to take a child to the bathroom and the other staff person in the classroom was in the back of the classroom and did not the position herself in a manner as to be able to supervise the entire classroom. Retrain staff.
