You, Megan Roderick, Administrator, assisted me with the visit. Your program currently operates with a 3-star license issued September 19, 2022, earning 5 points in the education component, 2 points in the program standards component meeting enhanced ratios, and 1 quality point for the administrator having at least 10 years of documented childcare administrative work experience in a licensed program. Prior to the visit the compliance history score was 98%. The NC Secretary of State website was reviewed today, and Great Beginnings of River Road was listed as current and active. The restrictions for their license were in compliance. eighty-five (85) children are enrolled and sixty (60) children ages 0-5 were present today. A walk-through of the facility was completed today and all approved spaces were monitored for compliance. I observed children in the indoor learning environments and found supervision and staff/child ratios to be in compliance. Children throughout the facility were participating in free play or eating morning snack that consisted of oatmeal and milk. The caregivers were interacting and meeting the developmental needs for each of the children. Five new staff member has been hired and all required paperwork was observed. Fire and sanitation inspections remain current. Today Ms. Roderick stated the program was ready to discuss their plan for Pathways to Stars. The program plans to move forward with Pathway 2 - Classroom and Instructional Quality. Today we discussed next steps and that documentation is included in the packet for today. The following violation was observed. Violation Number Comment Rule 859 Monthly playground inspections were not completed and/or they were not completed by an individual trained in playground safety requirements. A playground inspection was not completed for September. .0605(q) Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Any violation(s) documented may impact the compliance history score. The violation(s) documented must be corrected immediately. On or before October 21, 2025, must receive a written, dated, and signed compliance letter that describes accurately and in detail, how and when the violations were corrected. Please be aware that any information submitted by you is considered legal documentation. If it is determined the information provided in the letter is not true, this may be considered falsification of information. Meagan Roderick, Director, assisted me with the visit. The program currently operates with a 3-star license issued September 19, 2022, earning 2 points in program standards, 5 points in staff education, and 1 quality point in the education option. Restrictions on the permit include: daytime care only; and meets enhanced ratios. The last annual compliance visit was conducted May 31, 2022. Prior to the visit the compliance history score was 97%. According to the NC Secretary of State website, Great Beginnings of River Road, Inc is current and active. Sanitation and Fire inspections remain current. All licensed spaces were monitored today. Children were observed in spaces 1, and 3-7. Children participated in free play activities with age-appropriate materials. All activity plans were current and aligned with NC Early Childhood Foundations. Staff had informal conversations with children and engaged in play as well. Lunch for today consisted of beef ravioli, peaches, green beans, whole wheat bread, and milk. The playground equipment has been recently painted and some renovations have been made. The following violation was observed and corrected during the visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 849 Leftover medicines were not returned to the parent after the course of treatment was completed, after authorization was withdrawn or after authorization had expired and/or medication was not discarded within 72 hours of completion of treatment or withdrawal of authorization. Leftover topical creams and/or bug spray were not returned to the parent or discarded as required. .0803(12) Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Any violation(s) documented may impact the compliance history score. Since the violation was corrected during the visit a compliance letter is not required. Technical Assistance: I strongly encourage you to review the child care rules regarding medication and share them with staff. It may be helpful to create a checklist for staff to assist them in making sure requirements regarding permission, storage and administration are met. I also encourage you to check the classroom medicine boxes on a regular basis as an additional monitoring measure. Infants were engaged in tummy time, morning snack, and diapering routines. Sleep checks were completed, recorded, and maintained as required. The caregivers were interacting and meeting the developmental needs for each of the children. There have been no new staff hired since the annual compliance visit. Rated license requirements were reviewed to ensure compliance was maintained with current program and education components as well as the quality point. Lunch for today is pizza, green beans, pineapple, whole wheat bread, and milk. Two violations were observed today, and both were corrected during the visit. The violations are as follows: Violation Number Comment Rule 812 Electrical outlets and power strips, not in use, which were located in space used by children did not have safety outlets or were not covered with safety plugs unless located behind furniture or equipment that cannot be moved by a child.
