Name of Operation: LITTLE JOURNEYS CHILDCARE CENTER LLC Facility ID: 65001074 Consultant: JENNIFER DEMPSEY Operation Type: Family CC Home Case Number: Visit Date: 9/18/2023 Number Present: 3 Completed Date: 9/18/2023 Age: From 2 To 3 Total Minutes: 90 Time In: 08:30 AM Time Out: 10:00 AM Time In: Time Out: List to Use: Family CC Home Type Of Visit: Temp Time Period Announced/Unannounced: Unannounced The purpose of today's unannounced visit was to monitor compliance with applicable child care requirements for the facility’s the second temporary time period visit. The facility’s Temporary License was issued June 26, 2023 and is valid through December 26, 2023. Restrictions on the permit include a first shift capacity of 8 children ages 0 to 12 years old; maximum of 5 preschool children at any time. Child Care Consultant Shereen Pickett was present and assisted with today’s visit. Three children was present during today’s visit. Children were in the main child care space cooking in dramatic play and building with blocks. The caregiver was actively engaged play with the children. They also played peek-a-boo and sang songs. The main child care space is arranged into activity areas with a variety of age appropriate toys and materials. You had the following items posted/located in a prominent place in for parents and available for me to review: the Temporary License, Safe Arrival and Departure Procedure, Summary of the NC Child Care Law and activity plan, no smoking sign and your emergency care plan. Violation Number Comment Rule 714 Monthly check for hazards on the outdoor play area was not completed using a form supplied by the Division. A record of outdoor inspections was not available for review. 10A NCAC .1721(e)(5)(A-F) The above violation was observed today. Send me a compliance letter by Friday September 22, 2023 stating how the violation has been corrected. Your compliance letter is a legal document. Be sure to clearly detail how the violation was corrected using complete sentences. Remember it is your responsibility to ensure you meet all applicable requirements at all times. Technical assistance regarding violations cited: Fire drill and outdoors inspections must be completed monthly and recorded on your fire drill log and playground inspection forms. The forms may be found on our website https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/Provider/Provider-Documents-and-Forms . You must completed the form recording all the required information. Partial information will not be considered in the future. General technical assistance: Today we discussed activity plans and schedules. While these documents may be combined they are not the same thing. The schedule tells what you are doing at set times throughout the day. For example morning snack is at 8:00am and outside time is at 9:50am. Your activity plan tells what you are doing in blocks and art today. You are working with Natalie Pond at Smart Start of New Hanover County as you create and fine tune your program. It may be easier to separate your schedule from your activity plan. You can find sample activity plans on our website. I strongly urge you to review Child Care Rule 10A NCAC 09 .1721 regarding requirements for records. Please pay close attention to the charts located in 10A NCAC 09 .1721(f)(4) which indicate how long records must be kept on file. I also suggest you utilize the checklists for staff files, children’s files and program records to ensure you have all required documents. These checklists are available on the DCDEE website under the Provider Documents tab. Your health questionnaire needs to be updated by October 1, 2023. While it has rained frequently over the last several days you need to ensure your grass stays maintained. Today we discussed the need for your grass to be cut within the next few days. EPR: You have until June 26, 2024 to complete Emergency Preparedness and Response training. Once completed the EPR training has been completed, you must be completed your EPR plan within four (4) months. Once your EPR plan has been completed, print a copy and have it available for review. You will need to complete either a shelter-in-place or lock -down drill each quarterly and annotate this information on the Emergency drill log. Health & Safety Training: The CCDF Health and Safety in Child Care Trainings, developed by the North Carolina Child Care Health and Safety Resource Center, are FREE and easy to access. You will need to have an NCID - the same NCID that is used to log in to WORKS and/or the CBC Portal. These modules can be found by using the "all courses" function or searching for CCDF - Health and Safety in Child Care in the search box at the bottom of the main Moodle page. SUBSIDY: Child Care Centers with a Temporary License in good standing may be eligible for participation in the NC Child Care Subsidy System during their first 6 months of operation. Only centers with a 3 Star or higher license to continue to participate in the Subsidy System after the first 6 months of operation. Summary of the Rated License Reassessment Process: >Program Standards: This program meets all enhanced requirements. If you wish to have the environment Rating Scales completed as part of your 2-5 star application, you must submit your completed request no later than Friday September 22, 2023. Failure to submit your request by February 22, 2023 may result your application being processed without the results from your assessment. You may request an assessment at any time in the future. Without an assessment the facility will 2 points in Program as you have completed your three month self-assessment. >Education: You have completed the North Carolina Child Care Credential and have completed an additional 3 semester hours in early childhood education. You are currently enrolled in an additional 3 semester hours. Once you have successfully completed your current class, send your official unopened transcript to Works for evaluation. Point in education will be determined once all education has been evaluated. >Quality Point: Your program meets requirements for a Quality Point in the Programmatic option for serving no more than two children less than one. Your facility will earn 1 Quality Point. If the operator fails to correct any documented violations within the established time period, the Division of Child Development and Early Education may deny, suspend, terminate, or revoke any permit to operate (10A NCAC 09 .2000).
