The last annual compliance visit was conducted 12/11/24. Currently this program operates with a five (5) Star License, issued 3/21/19. The facility earned seven (7) points in staff education, six (6) points in program standards, and one (1) quality point form programmatic options met. Center director Amanda Oakes and assistant director Brittany Blalock assisted me today. I conducted an assisted walk-through of the center. The last sanitation inspection was completed 12/13/24 with a ‘Superior’ classification and 4 demerits. The last fire inspection was conducted on 5/23/24. Children were observed playing outside, playing in activity areas, and routine care activities. Transportation is not provided. The files for four new staff members were reviewed. A partial assessment of childcare rules was conducted today. The following violation(s) were documented and technical assistance regarding maintaining compliance was offered. Violation Number Comment Rule 1033 On or before the first day of work, all staff, including the director and individuals who volunteer more than once per week did not provide results indicating that they were free of active TB and/or TB test or screening was older than 12 months. The TB test for one new staff member was older than twelve months on date of hire. .0701(a) 1044 Prior to the expiration date of the qualification letter, the child care provider did not complete and submit required forms to complete a criminal background check (a qualification letter is valid for a maximum of five years for the date of issuance). The letter for S. McCain expired 3/19/25. G.S. 110-90.2(b) & .2703(n)&(o) 1048 All staff did not successfully complete certification in First Aid appropriate to the age of children in care. Verification of staff completion of First Aid training from an approved training organization was not in the staff file. The training for four staff members was completed after the expiration date. .1102(c) 1049 All staff did not successfully complete certification in CPR training appropriate to the age of the children in care. Verification of staff completion of the CPR course from an approved training organization was not in the staff file. The training for four staff members was completed after the expiration date. .1102(d) 1311 Emergency medical care information was not on file in the center on the child's first day of attendance and/or was not updated as changes occurred or at least annually for each child. The action plans for two children in the prek room were not updated annually. .0802(c) You were provided an opportunity to ask questions regarding interpretation and implementation of all childcare requirements. Violations cited during the visit were discussed. The violation(s) documented above must be corrected immediately. A signed and dated letter of compliance must be received on or before 5/13/25. The letter must include the following: *Facility Name and ID number *List of each violation number *How each violation was corrected All items must be included, or the corrective action letter will be returned for corrections. All requested documentation must accompany the Corrective Action Letter. The letter can be emailed to lori.rierson@dhhs.nc.gov. CONSULTATION: All licensed childcare facilities are currently under the ‘Hold-Harmless’ state for their license from DCDEE. Once QRIS is implemented, you will receive information from DCDEE regarding the new pathways for licensure and your timeframe for completing your license renewal. The NCRLAP website, https://ncrlap.org, has trainings geared towards the new ECERS3 and ITERS3 assessment scales. These will introduce you to the updated assessment scale and provide tips for completing the new scale. A fire inspection must be completed by 5/22/24. The criminal background letter is due for the following staff: A. Oakes 6/21/25. The health and safety trainings are due for the following staff: K. Hughes-5/2025, J. Poole – 8/2025, and B. Puett- 10/2025. Any vehicle used to transport children for activities must be approved for use by a childcare consultant from DCDEE. We discussed storage of emergency medications today. If an action plan requires an over-the-counter medication, that medication must be kept in locked storage and stored with the emergency medication not in locked storage. A new staff member may use health and safety trainings completed prior to employment if they have copies of the training certificates and the trainings are not older than twelve months on date of hire.
