    Name of Operation: MERRY LAND CHILD CARE Facility ID: 73000114 Consultant: ANITA GRAHAM Operation Type: Family CC Home Case Number: Visit Date: 4/17/2025 Number Present: 2 Completed Date: 4/17/2025 Age: From 1 To 1 Total Minutes: 150 Time In: 10:20 AM Time Out: 12:50 PM Time In: Time Out: List to Use: Family CC Home Type Of Visit: Annual Comp Full Announced/Unannounced: Unannounced The purpose of today’s unannounced visit was to conduct annual compliance monitoring. This facility operates with a One (1) Star, Family Child Care License which was issued on September 25, 2024. Upon arrival, I was invited in by the owner, Mary Ann Whitt. I introduced myself and stated the purpose of my visit. I conducted a walk-through of the child care space. Attendance was taken and observations made. The are two (2) preschool aged children present this date. The children are one (1) year old. The children were observed participating in indoor free play, routines and having a meal and resting. A full assessment of child care requirements was monitored on this date. I monitored supervision, ratio requirements, The license and all posting were observed, I monitored all program records, two (2) children’s records and the provider’s file and outdoor learning space. The following violations were observed, cited and technical assistance was provided. Violation Number Comment Rule 904 Documentation of the operator’s emergency medical care plan to follow in the event of a child medical emergency, was not on file and available for review. **The Emergency Medical Care Plan form was on the wall and not filled out.** .1713 1940 Hazardous cleaning supplies and other items that might be poisonous e.g. toxic plants, were not out of reach or in locked storage when children were in care. **Aerosol sprays, disinfectant wipes were observed stored in unlock storage.** .1719(a)(6) 1962 Activity plans did not include activities intended to stimulate the developmental domains, in accordance with NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development. **Activity plans were not observed posted in the learning space and were not made available for Division Representative review.** 10A NCAC 09 .1718(a)(8)(A)(i-iv) 2023 Operator and/or staff who work with children, did not complete health and safety training as part of on-going training so that every five years, all the topic areas were covered. **Documentation of a retake of Health and Safety Training was not made available for Division Representative review. .1703(d)(2) 2047 Incident logs were not completed and maintained as required. **An incident log was not available for Division Representative review.** 10A NCAC 09 .1721(e)(4) The above violations must be corrected immediately and a compliance letter drafted stating how and when compliance was achieved. Please submit the letter on the program letterhead with your facility ID number. You will need to address each Item number. If the letter has not been received on or before May 1, 2025, a return visit may be necessary to ensure compliance. You were provided with an opportunity to ask questions regarding the interpretation and implementation of North Carolina child care requirements. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: Your daily activity plan must be posted. Aerosol sprays must be locked up. The emergency medical care plan should be completed and posted in your facility. Health and Safety training should be renewed every five years. All required training certificates shall be available for Division Representative review. AGENCY NEWS: FREE 1-hour DCDEE credit training - Address the Stress for Child Care Professionals! Infant/Toddler Trauma-Informed (ITTI) Care Project Training (Free) Child care professionals often feel overwhelmed, unappreciated and isolated. The work is hard and can be both incredibly rewarding and exhausting at the same time. Being responsible for children all day requires energy, patience, and staying calm when children are not. Teachers, family child care professionals and directors need to be ready to respond to children's developmental needs with compassion and creativity to provide the relationships and environments that children need to thrive. In this training, we will start with YOU and your stress and support you in developing an action plan to reduce stress and thrive! We will practice and emphasize the importance of self-reflection, self-awareness, self-care. Staff of the ITTI Care Project, a multi-level trauma-informed approach to promoting child care workforce wellness and relationship-based child care environments, provide an interactive training designed to help you prioritize workday wellness and reduce stress. This program is operating with one star license. Upon arrival, I informed the provider, Mary Ann Whitt, of the purpose of my visit. She was caring for one infant child. Another child arrived at 10:25. The last annual compliance visit was conducted on 4/25/2024. I observed the infant child being diapered and having a tummy time. I observed the school age child playing with the toys and materials easily accessible to them. Ms. Whitt requested that the fire place/stove restriction be removed. She told me the stove which used to be in the dining area was removed over 20 years ago. I observed the wall where the stove used to be located covered filled with bricks. I observed the following violations. Violation Number Comment Rule 543 Screen time was not prohibited for children under the age of three. The operator did not offer alternative activities for children under the age of three years. "A TV program was playing on the television in the child care space. An infant child was present. Ms. Whitt corrected the violation by turning the television off when I brought it to her attention." .1718(c) 801 Bacteriological analysis indicating the water is free of bacteria had not been performed on a sample of water from each well used for the children's water supply every two years. Results were not kept on file in the home. "The well water test has not been completed since 4/12/2022." 10A NCAC 09 .1725(a)(1) The purpose of today's visit was to monitor compliance with appliable child care requirements during a routine unannounced visit. This program is operating with one star license. Upon arrival, I informed the provider, Mary Ann Whitt, of the purpose of my visit. She was caring for one infant child.
