This visit was conducted by Sally Allen, Child Care Consultant, with Angie Wilson, Director. Currently this center operates with a Notice of Compliance. The sanitation inspection was completed on January 23, 2024, with a “superior” classification with eight (8) demerits. The fire inspection was completed on August 3, 2023. A copy was received prior to today’s visit. The facility is owned and operated by Community Baptist Church of Reidsville. The Secretary of State website was checked prior to today’s visit and the corporation is listed as current and active. Fifty-four (54) children were present. The children were observed playing indoors and preparing for outdoor play. All indoor and outdoor areas were monitored. Fire drill reports and playground inspections were monitored during today's visit. The last fire drill was conducted on February 28, 2024. It took the children two (2) minutes and thirty (30) seconds to evacuate. The last emergency drill, a lockdown drill, was conducted on March 1, 2024. The emergency drills must be conducted every three (3) months. Staff and children’s files were monitored according to the policies and procedures set by the Division of Child Development and Early Education. Ms. Wilson stated that children enrolled have emergency medications. The facility does not provide routine transportation. The following violations were observed during today's visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 721 All equipment and furnishings were not in good repair. The large stationary piece of equipment was not in good repair. The underneath of the structure had sharp edges. The straight red slides were rough and sharp at the bottom sides. The bottom red side climbers was broken and loose. There was also chipped painting on the railing at the steps. Both sets of swings were rusted and had chipping paint. G.S. 110-91(6); .0601(b) 841 Medications including prescription and non-prescription items were not stored in a locked cabinet or other locked container. A bottle of children's Motrin in space 5 and a bottle of Benadryl in space 6 were not locked. 15A NCAC 18A .2820(d) 859 Monthly playground inspections were not completed and/or they were not completed by an individual trained in playground safety requirements. The playground inspection for February 2024 was not completed. .0605(q) Consultation: 1. On February 21, 2024, I emailed Ms. Wilson a document regarding required Lead and Asbestos Testing. Ms. Wilson stated that the email was received and she begun training but stopped due to questions. Compliance letter: You must correct the violations found during today's visit immediately. Please send me two (2) letters verifying compliance. The letters must be received by March 19, 2024. Please include in your letter each violation number and how you corrected each violation and what plan will be implemented to prevent these violations from occurring again. Please include the name of your center and ID number, date, and the title of the person who signs the letter. Please send the letter to: Sally Allen, PO Box 1305, Eden, NC 27289. If you state in your letter that corrections have been made when they have not, it will be considered falsification of information.
