Your program was also monitored for compliance with implementing an approved curriculum as required for all four- and five-star licensed facilities where four-year-old children are enrolled. Today’s visit was conducted with you, Martinique McLaughlin, Center Director. You visited each child care area with me. I monitored classrooms in use for compliance with staff/child ratios, supervision, capacity, group size and staff interaction/discipline. A group of older children were participating in a teacher led group time. The teacher asked the children questions about classroom rules. She then asked children to give examples of the classroom rules. After grout time, children started routine toileting in preparation for outdoor time. In a classroom for younger children, staff supervised children as they were starting rest time. The light remained on and children rested on their cots quietly. Another group of younger children finished eating lunch and got individual books to read while sitting on the carpet area. In the room for infants, staff sat on the floor with infants who were having floor play time. Infants crawled around the space and manipulated materials. Staff talked with children about their movement and activity. Another staff member fed a child and talked with the child about the meal, next step such as handwashing, and about the child excitement. The facility was monitored for health and safety requirements both indoors and outdoors. Program requirements, equipment, and furnishings were monitored. Inspections and drills were current. One violation related to the fire inspection was cited. A sampling of children’s and existing staff’s records, and all new staff records was monitored. The information was documented on the children’s records form and the staff and training worksheet. One violation related to staff records was documented. Information regarding compliance was documented on an Annual Compliance Monitoring Checklist. The last annual compliance visit was conducted 6/4/2025. The owner/operator is listed as current/active with the NC Secretary of State. The facility does not transport children. NC PRE-K REQUIREMENTS: NC Pre-K requirements were monitored which also included screenings, family engagement, children records, ongoing assessments, and parent/teacher conferences. Violation Number Comment Rule 106 Operator has not scheduled and obtained a fire inspection within 12 months of the previous inspection. Operator did not submit the original approved report to DCDEE within one week of the inspection visit on a form provided by the Division. A full assessment of child care requirements was conducted. Your program currently operates with a Five-Star license. Today’s visit was conducted with you, Saka Balqees, Assistant Director. Ms. Pierre-Louis accompanied me as I walked through the facility. I monitored classrooms in use for compliance with staff/child ratios, supervision, capacity, group size and staff interaction/discipline. Children throughout the facility were playing outside which included riding toys, climbing equipment, sand play, and portable equipment. Older children were practicing for graduation. Younger children were being diapered, having floor play time, eating lunch, and transitioning to rest time. roper handwashing and diapering procedures were observed. Staff assisted children with using materials and met children’s developmental needs. The facility was monitored for health and safety requirements both indoors and outdoors. Program requirements, along with equipment and furnishings, were monitored. All inspections and drills were current. A sampling of children’s and staff records, including new staff records, were monitored. A checklist was also used to monitor compliance. A violation regarding medication and one regarding first aid training was cited. The last annual compliance visit was conducted 6/17/24. The owner/operator is listed as current/active with the NC Secretary of State. NC PreK requirements were monitored and complied. Violation Number Comment Rule 1048 All staff did not successfully complete certification in First Aid appropriate to the age of children in care. Verification of staff completion of First Aid training from an approved training organization was not in the staff file. One staff member did not complete First Aid certification. .1102(c) 1882 Medication authorization, giving the caregiver standing authorization did not meet the specifications in rule.
