QRIS MODERNIZATION: On June 26th, the North Carolina Rules Review Commission (RRC) approved the QRIS Modernization rules adopted by the NC Child Care Commission during their April meeting. The Division of Child Development and Early Education is preparing a summary of the rules, an online training module for Moodle, and an implementation plan. A webinar will be scheduled later this month to share the implementation plan and will also provide resources that can assist you with understanding the new rules. The implementation plan will allow time for administrators/operators to learn and understand the different pathways and the changes within our system. You are encouraged to visit the QRIS Modernization page on the DCDEE website to learn more now, and, if you have not already completed the QRIS survey, you are encouraged to. A full assessment of child care requirements was conducted. You, Lichia Sibhatu, Operator, assisted me with the visit. Your program currently operates with a Five-Star license. Children were finishing eating lunch. One child was playing with materials in the child care space. You moved about the space assisting children with finishing lunch, handwashing, and preparing for rest time. Supervision, capacity, and license restrictions complied. It is necessary for the safety of children to require that the caregivers comply with requirements governing the transportation of children in care, in the absence of the parent/guardian. Today I observed the vehicle inspection and registration were due June 2024. You explained you did not receive the notice in the mail per usual. In the past, a notice that the registration and inspection were coming due would be sent as a reminder to complete them, you explained. You stated you would go to DMV to complete the requirement to update the vehicle registration when the children leave for the day. The expiration of the insurance as documented at the time of my visit was inaccurate. The correct expiration date is 1/3/2025. LEAD IN WATER, LEAD IN PAINT, AND ASBESTOS: I reviewed the information for your facility and observed the The Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids program is designed to identify and eliminate exposure to lead and asbestos hazards in child care spaces. Family child care homes are required to meet rule requirements (Child Care Rule 10A NCAC 09 .1725(a)(2), NC 10A NCAC 41C.1001-1007). Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids is designed to ensure family child care homes meet all requirements. *Step One - You must immediately sign-up for pre-enrollment webinar at www.cleanwaterforUSkids.org/carolina. *Step Two - You must complete the testing by January 1, 2025. CONSULTATION: You inquired about information to assist with various behaviors in the classrooms. Healthy Social Behaviors in Child Care Centers Project can help. You may contact them to speak with a Behavior Support Advisor at 1-888-600-1685, option one. EPR Plan – Remember to update the Consultant information listed on your EPR plan. Kitchen – We discussed that you would place a piece of furnishing or a gate to block access to the kitchen when you are not in the space.
