You, Margaret Bryant, Owner, were present for consultation during the visit. Your program currently operates with a 3-Star license, issued March 18, 2024. The facility’s compliance history was reviewed with the operator. The program’s compliance history was ninety-eight (98) percent as of September 24, 2024. Restrictions on the permit include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift care, a maximum of five (5) preschool children cared for at any time, and fireplace/woodstove not used during operating hours. The license was posted, and the restrictions were in compliance. A walk-through of your facility was completed today, all indoor and outdoor areas were monitored. Six (6) children between ages one (1) and seven (7) are enrolled and two (2) were present today. The indoor space was a safe environment, and a variety of activities were available for the children. All children were adequately supervised. Appropriate toys and materials were observed in this area. A bathroom is located in the childcare space. Upon arrival at your facility, you and the children were transitioning from the outdoors pace into the indoors space. Routine handwashing procedures were monitored when you entered the home, and requirements were met. The children were engaged in a variety of free play activities which included link chains, baby dolls, cooking utensils, Mr. Potato Head manipulatives, and connecting shapes. You prepared the children lunch which consisted of chicken nuggets, cabbage, sweet potatoes, cornbread, bananas, water, and milk. Food service was monitored and found to be in compliance. The outdoor space had a variety of gross motor equipment including wagons, a caterpillar tunnel, push toys, tricycles, a dramatic play area, sand box, activity tables, a small slide and picnic tables. The outdoor area has a stationary covering for shade. Today, you reported that you currently are not providing transportation. The facility’s Shaken Baby and Abusive Head Trauma and Safe Sleep Policies were reviewed, and requirements were met. Violation Number Comment Rule 1306 Operator has not completed ITS-SIDS training every three years from the completion date of the previous ITS-SIDS training. Operator ITS-SIDS training expired on September 21, 2024. .1703(a)(4) Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Any violations documented may impact the compliance history score. Any violations documented must be corrected immediately. On or before Friday, October 4, 2024, I must receive a written, dated, and signed compliance letter that describes accurately and in detail how and when the violation was corrected. Please be aware any information submitted by you is legal documentation. If it is determined the information provided in the letter is not true, this may be considered falsification of information. If sufficient information is not received by the due date, a follow-up visit will be conducted. Mail or email the information to: Andrea Johnson, Child Care Consultant andrea.johnson@dhhs.nc.gov PO Box 904 Beaufort, NC 28516 252-732-0183 If you email the compliance letter, it must be sent from the email address registered with the DCDEE (this serves as your signature) and the following information must be included: name, position, facility name, and facility ID number. An example is: Jane Doe, Administrator AAA Child Care ID # 12345678 Technical Assistance: FCCH-ITS-SIDS Training Family child care home operators licensed to care for infants 12 months and younger must: Complete the ITS-SIDS training within 12 months prior to applying for a family child care home license. Complete the ITS-SIDS training again no more than 3 years from the completion of previous ITS-SIDS training. Water and Lead Testing: Facilities should have been enrolled before May 1, 2024. State funds for mitigation are available through 2026, however, funds are limited so we recommend enrolling as soon as possible. You can work through the program in the way that works best for your facility. A few tips: • All three section enrollment surveys (lead in water, lead-based paint, and asbestos) must be completed by May 1, 2024 • Work on the enrollment surveys one section at a time to prevent duplicate data entry • Complete the enrollment for the asbestos section and the lead-based-paint section close together. They have similar questions, and if onsite visits are needed, they can be coordinated across these two program sections. •You can enroll multiple facilities from your dashboard by selecting “Enroll a New Facility”. As we discussed today, the previous water testing, conducted on September 13, 2022, is valid for three (3) years. Please ensure that your facility is registered for lead-based paint and asbestos. Please send a copy of your results to me, once this process is complete. You are currently in the process of enrolling your facility in the Clean Classroom for Kids for lead in water, lead-based paint, and asbestos testing. Workforce Education Unit: Today we discussed submitting your education to WORKS. I provided you with your most recent WORKS Status Letter dated July 2010. Below is the link to WORKS which provides instructions for submission of the education courses you have taken since 2010. https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/Portals/0/documents/pdf/O/Official_Hard_Copy_Electronic_Transcript_Submission_Process-May_2023.pdf?ver=NubgP6zClMNdJNHCyJjd4Q%3d%3d QRIS update: Get ready for the 3s Starting on February 1, 2025, the ECERS-3, ITERS-3, and FCCERS-3—also known as the "3s"—will be used for DCDEE environment rating scale assessments.
