I introduced myself to the school administrator and teachers. I conducted a walkthrough of the approved space with Monique Brown and Michelle McPherson. CURRENT LICENSE STATUS: This program operated with a Four (4) Star Licensure that was issued June 13, 2023, earning 7 points in program standard, 3 points in staff education Component, and 1 quality point through staff benefits and infrastructure. INSPECTIONS: The last sanitation inspection was conducted on 11/9/23. The last fire inspection was conducted on 8/22/23. The last fire drill was conducted on 12/21/23. The last outdoor inspection was conducted on 12/16/23. The last Emergency drill (shelter-in-place/lockdown drill) was conducted 11/25/23. All applicable child care requirements were assessed during today’s visit. The program does not provide transportation. Therefore, this requirement was not monitored. A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today. PROGRAM RECORDS: Staff on-going training requirements were assessed from December 30, 2022 – December 30, 2023, and was in compliance. Ten children's records were reviewed, five from each classroom. All files were found to contain the required information. The off-site verification form was also current and on file for current children. The following violations were observed and documented during today’s visit: Violation Number Comment Rule 811 Potentially hazardous items including but not limited to power tools, nails, chemicals, propane stoves, lawn mowers, gasoline, or kerosene were not stored in locked areas, removed from the premises, or made inaccessible to children. Hand sanitizer was stored less than 5 feet from the floor in space #220 and #216. .0604(a) 812 Electrical outlets and power strips, not in use, which were located in space used by children did not have safety outlets or were not covered with safety plugs unless located behind furniture or equipment that cannot be moved by a child. Surge protectors had uncovered outlets in space # 220. 10A NCAC 09 .0604(c) 1897 The child care administrator and all staff did not complete the Recognizing and Responding to Suspicions of Child Maltreatment training within 90 days of employment.One staff member, who has been employed for more than 12 months, had not completed this training. .1102(g) The above violations must be corrected immediately. Please email me a signed letter of compliance by 2/7/24. Before the letter is sent, all violations should be corrected; please contact me if additional time is needed to correct a specific violation. The letter must address each violation, explain how it has been corrected and how it will be maintained in the future. COMPLIANCE HISTORY Prior to today's visit your compliance history was 99%. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: The information below was shared with you to maintain quality within your program and to prevent future violations. Reminder: I was unable to confirm that one staff member did not complete Recognizing and Responding to Suspicions of Child Maltreatment training within their first 90 days of employment. All staff are required to complete this training within the appropriate time frame. Recognizing and Responding to Suspicions of Child Maltreatment training is available at www.preventchildabusenc.org The following drill are due by the end of the month: a)Fire drill b)Outdoor inspection Electrical outlets and power strips, not in use in space used by children must be covered with safety plugs unless located behind furniture or equipment that cannot be moved by a child.
