This documentation was reviewed with you and a copy of the visit summary documentation was given to you at the end of the visit. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the director and owner, Mary Burge, and I conducted a general walk through of the indoor and outdoor learning environments. I observed 4 children present today. They were engaged in free play and then washed their hands and transitioned to lunch. RATED LICENSE STATUS The program operates with a 4-star rated license issued on 4/4/19 They received 2 points in program standards, 7 points in staff education and one quality point through the educational option of having a BS/BA in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. The program’s “held harmless status” has been extended until the new QRIS is implemented. This means that rated license visits will not be processed until the new rated license process is completed unless the program requests to proceed with a new rated license. INSPECTIONS The last documented fire drill was conducted 12/6/24 The last documented lock down or shelter-in-place drill was conducted 12/9/24. The last documented playground inspection was conducted 12/9/24. MONITORING During this visit a full assessment of Child Care Requirements was conducted. The facility was assessed using items noted on the Annual Compliance for Centers checklist. The program is privately owned so I did not conduct a search of the NC Secretary of State’s website. Staff on-going training was assessed from 2/1/24 – 1/31/25. You completed 5.5 hours of training this year and have 1.5 hours of training to carry over to next year. The following violations were observed and recorded during today’s visit: Violation Number Comment Rule 930 Prior to the expiration date of the qualification letter, the child care provider did not complete and submit required forms to complete a criminal background check (a qualification letter is valid for a maximum of five years from the date of issuance). The qualification letter expired in September 2024. G.S. 110-90.2 & .2703(n) & (o) The above violation must be corrected immediately. By 1/2/25 please email me a signed letter of compliance. Before the letter is sent, all violations should be corrected; please contact me if additional time is needed to correct a specific violation. Include the following in your letter: facility ID number, list the item number describing how and when the violations were corrected and tell me how you plan to maintain compliance in the future with each item. If you prefer to mail your letter, you may send it my attention at 2201 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-2201 If the compliance action letter is not received by the due date another visit to the center may be made. COMPLIANCE HISTORY Prior to today’s visit, the compliance history score for the center was 100%. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE Your qualification letter has expired. To continue operating, you must have a valid qualification letter. Please begin the process for renewal as soon as possible. If your letter is not received within 14 calendar days, you will be unable to provide care until this violation is corrected. . CONSULTATION Child Care facilities are required to test their drinking and cooking water for lead every three years. Your water was tested 1/7/24. Clean Water for Carolina Kids. Contact www.cleanwaterforcarolinakids.org for more information. In addition, child care facilities are now required to test for lead and asbestos hazards in their buildings. The Clean Classrooms for Carolina Kids program is designed to identify and eliminate exposure to lead and asbestos hazards in building infrastructure, while providing child care facilities with the support needed to meet all rule requirements. Additional information can be found in the RaiseNC newsletter sent on December 7, 2023. I reviewed documentation today that this was completed on 2/29/24. REMINDERS Your mother’s qualification letter expire 1/30/25. Please complete her renewal as soon as possible. Your CPR and First Aid expires 1-14-25. If you have not already done so, you should schedule this training right away. AGENCY UPDATES Please check the DCDEE website frequently for updates and changes to child care requirements. The Child Care Commission is publishing new rules related to the modernization of the Quality Rated License Improvement System in the new year. Once the rules are published there will be a 60-day public comment period. This is an opportunity to give input and ask questions regarding this process.
