The visit was conducted with you, Lead Teachers, Ms. Roberts and Assistant Teacher Ms.Conner. A substitute was working in space #2. This program currently operates with a July 21, 2022. The permit restrictions were in compliance. The restrictions are as follows: daytime care only, meets enhanced ratios minus one for each group, meets enhanced space. Your program was also monitored for compliance with implementing an approved curriculum as required for all four and five star licensed facilities where four-year -old children are enrolled. You said you use Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies. The last annual compliance visit was conducted 5/22/25. The most recent sanitation inspection for your facility was conducted on 2/19/26. A superior sanitation classification was issued with 6 demerits noted on the grade card. The most recent approved fire inspection for your facility was conducted on 10/2/25 and approved for daytime care only. The most recent monthly fire drill was conducted on 3/16/26. The most recent quarterly lockdown/shelter-in-place drill was conducted on 3/23/26. The facilities EPR Plan was reviewed on 8/18/25. The most recent monthly playground inspection was completed on 4/24/26 Two classrooms and the outdoor gross motor areas were monitored. I observed children during indoor free play activities, indoor gross motor activities, due to active precipitation, bathroom/handwashing routines, snack, a teacher directed activity, and lunch. Supervision and staff/child ratios to be in compliance. A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today. The analysis date for the most recent lead water test was 4/23/24. This website also indicated Survey by RTI for asbestos and lead-based paint testing. Check with school maintenance to ensure these requirements have been completed. Staff records were reviewed using DPI verification forms with no violations documented. The only new staff was a substitute. Staff was listed on the ABCMS system. A sample of children’s files were reviewed using the DPI verification form with no violations. NC Pre-K requirements were monitored and in compliance. One violation was observed during today’s visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 841 Medications including prescription and non-prescription items were not stored in a locked cabinet or other locked container. A bottle of Benedryl was in the emergengy bag and not in locked storage in space #2. 15A NCAC 18A .2820(d) Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Any violations documented may impact the compliance history score. The violation documented was corrected during the visit. Please be aware any information submitted by you is legal documentation. Your compliance was 95% before today's visit. TA- Prescription and non-prescription medication must be stored in locked storage. I reviewed mediation that are considered to be emergency medications that can be stored five feet from the floor and inaccessible to children. Benadryl is not considered to be an emergency medication. TA-I suggested all medication be checked, when it is brought, to ensure it is stored properly. Consultation: The ABCMS provider portal facility roster should be updated in ABCMS on an ongoing basis as staff members are hired and when their employment is terminated. This satisfies the requirement to notify the Division of new child care providers working who were hired or moved into the child care facility within five business days. The visit was conducted with Lead Teachers, Ms. Roberts and Ms. Honeycutt. The program operates with a five-star license issued on July 21, 2022. Restrictions were in compliance. A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today. A Sanitation inspection was conducted by Environmental Health on February 16, 2023, with nine (9) demerits showing on the grade card. The last fire inspection conducted by the McDowell Fire Marshal was completed on August 2, 2022. A fire drill was conducted on August 31, 2023. Two approved spaces were monitored during today’s visit. The children in care were observed during free play activities, bathroom/hand washing routines, lunch and nap. Violation Number Comment Rule 106 Operator has not scheduled and obtained a fire inspection within 12 months of the previous inspection. Operator did not submit the original approved report to DCDEE within one week of the inspection visit on a form provided by the Division.
