Any violation(s) documented may impact the compliance history score. Technical assistance was offered on the limiting whole group activities to shorter timeframes and allowing more free choice for those who are no longer interested in the activity. The attention span for children at any age differs as well as the learning styles. By limiting the whole group activities and allowing those who are no longer interested the choice to move on to another activity, you reduce the chance of disruptive behaviors occurring and reduce the risk of a child no longer enjoying activities such as reading because he or she has had to sit and listen to an extended story time and they may have become antsy and wanted to do another activity which may result in what could be considered a disruptive behavior. A few ideas that you can use to help encourage more participation in group activities are take a poll and get a census on the things that the children are interested in and would want to learn about during group time. Use creativity when conducting group activities. Such as choosing a book and having the children to come up with a title for the book just based on what they observe from the cover. Then have each child make up their own storyline for the book by having them give you a story or description of what they think is happening in the book just based off of the illustration. Also incorporate your lesson plan into the interest areas to encourage and promote more imaginative play. Reminder The hold harmless legislation was extended and signed into law on Monday June 12th, 2023. This legislation allows facilities to remain at their current star level without a reassessment until June 30, 2024, and when reassessed it reduces the education evaluation requirements for lead teachers from 75% to 50% until June of 2026. To prepare for the reassessment process, DCDEE has developed a cohort system. Currently you are in your preparation year, you could have an Environmental Rating Scales assessment during this prep year: • Will have a regular in-person observation and interview process and will receive an assessment report(s) afterwards. All typical assessment procedures will be followed by NCRLAP assessors, who will follow any health-related guidance requested by the program. • At the request of the operator, the assessment scores will be applied to a program’s license and program standards points only if this helps maintain or increase a star rating. A program may decide to wait until Year 2 to apply the scores. This will be determined by the program and their consultant, not NCRLAP. • If you choose not to apply the prep year scores, your program can complete the Environment Rating Scale assessment process again the following year for your Star Rated License. There is no fee for these reassessments. The North Carolina Early Childhood Equivalency Exam is a new pathway option comparable to a NC Early Childhood Credential. Applicants who achieve a score of 80% or higher on the NC Early Childhood Equivalency Exam earn the new North Carolina Early Childhood Equivalency Certificate. This certificate is equivalent to a North Carolina Early Childhood Credential and will qualify the individual to be a lead teacher in an early childhood classroom. To take the exam, go to DCDEE Moodle and select Early Childhood Professional Development/Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF)/North Carolina Early Childhood Equivalency Exam For the latest information on child care rules and regulations, please visit the Division of Child Development and Early Education's website at https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov At the completion of the visit, this visit summary was printed, reviewed, and a copy was left with you.
