A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today, including staff and children’s files. This facility operates with a One Star License effective August 29, 2022. The restrictions include an age range of 0-12 with a first shift capacity of 105 and no cooking allowed. The license was posted, and the restrictions were in compliance. The center is owned by The Montessori Children’s School, Inc. As of February 9, 2026, the corporation is current and active with the NC Secretary of State. The last annual compliance visit was conducted on February 18, 2025. The facility has an 18-month compliance history of 100%. Child Care programs are expected to always achieve and maintain compliance and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Any violation(s) documented may impact the compliance history score. Fire Inspection – 01/08/2026 – Approved for daytime care only – Satisfactory Sanitation Inspection – 12/12/2025 – 4 Demerits – Superior Head of School, Maegan Brusaw and Compliance Administrator, Christiana Dieffenbach, were present and available for consultation. Ms. Dieffenbach assisted me with paperwork, and I conducted a walkthrough of approved spaces, indoors and outdoors, unaccompanied. There are four classrooms operating with eighty-two enrolled and seventy-nine children present, aged 2-6. All children were observed outside playing in the fenced play areas. Children were observed running, riding trikes, playing ball, swinging on swings, sand play, playing on tires, and playing games with each other. Staff/Child Ratios were in compliance. All staff were observed were observed moving about the play areas to ensure all children were safe and adequately supervised. Staff were observed interacting with children in a positive and nurturing manner. When the children returned inside, they completed handwashing and bathroom routines and prepared for lunch. Lunch for all children is brought from home each day. Daily schedules were available for each group of children. Activity plans were observed posted in each classroom. Spaces #2, #3, #4, and #5 had a of free choice activities which included playdough, magnetic shapes, painting, coloring, sensory bottles, small legos, sand play, building with wooden blocks, animals, wooden pegs, writing with pencils, drawing with colored pencils, and identifying animals and continents. Health & Safety Training - Staff members, who have been employed for at least one year, have completed Health and Safety trainings as outlined in Child Care Rule 10A NCAC 09 .1102. Ensure this information is maintained on file. New staff are in the process of completing or have already completed these required trainings. Completing, refreshing, and updating the required Health and Safety Training increases your awareness and knowledge regarding child development and safety. Staff and Training Worksheets- There were twenty staff members employed at this facility. There were eight new staff members hired since the last annual compliance visit. All new staff and a percentage of veteran staff’s files were reviewed today. Required information and trainings for all existing staff were also monitored. The following violations were observed and documented today. All violations must be corrected immediately. The violations were corrected during the visit; therefore, a letter of compliance is not required. Continued compliance with applicable child care requirements is always required. Baby wipes and hand sanitizers with labels that read, keep out of the reach of children, were observed on a low shelf, accessible to the children in care. .0604(a) Child care licensing requirements are established to ensure a safe and healthy child care environment. Therefore, it is important for you to be knowledgeable of all the licensing requirements that apply to your type of program. It is your responsibility to maintain compliance with all the applicable laws and rules always whether they have been monitored or specifically discussed with you in the past. The best way for you to make sure that you meet all requirements is to periodically review the child care law and rules. Technical Assistance regarding violations cited: Activity plans – This violation was corrected during the visit. Activity plans in spaces #3 and #4 were dated January. Each classroom must have a current activity plan. The activity plan shall include activities intended to stimulate the following developmental domains, in accordance with North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning and Development, available on the Division's website at http://ncchildcare.nc.gov/providers/pv_foundations.asp: (1) emotional and social development; (2) health and physical development; (3) approaches to play and learning; (4) language development and communication; and (5) cognitive development.
