This center has a GS 110-106 Notice of Compliance. The center’s Notice of Compliance and NC childcare law summary were prominently posted. The Secretary of State database was monitored and LAKE FOREST CHURCH, EVANGELICAL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH is current and active. I was greeted by H. King, director. Ms. King accompanied me during the walkthrough of the facility. Staff/child ratio, supervision, capacity, group size and space were observed in compliance today. The center’s Emergency Drill Log and Report was reviewed. Fire drills were documented monthly as required. Shelter-in-place and Lock-down drills were documented quarterly as required. The playground safety inspections were reviewed and documented. The center last had a sanitation inspection on 6/25/25. The center received 12 demerits and received superior classification. The inspection was completed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department. The center last had a fire inspection on 10/1/24. There were 90 children in attendance today. The children were observed participating in am snack, sleeping, free play, gross motor play, transitions, teacher directed activities. The playgrounds were monitored during today’s visit. The facility does not provide transportation. All new staff files and ten percent of existing staff files were monitored today. Ten percent of the enrolled children’s files were monitored at random today. There were 4 violations cited during today’s visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 114 A summary of the NC Child Care Law was not given to a parent of every child enrolled in the center. Two children files did not have documentation that the parent received information regarding the summary of the law. This center has a GS 110-106 Notice of Compliance and an 18 month compliance history score of 97%. The notice of compliance and NC child care law summary were prominently posted. Upon arrival, I was greeted by S. Fruga, assistant director. H. King, director, was on a call at the initial start of the visit. Ms. Fruga accompanied me during the walkthrough of several classrooms. Ms. King accompanied me during the remainder walkthrough of the classrooms. There were 105 children in attendance today during the walkthrough. During the walk through, I spent time observing in space #2, the classroom for children 3 and 4 years of age. I observed the teachers and the children sitting on the carpet. I observed the teachers helping the children with recognizing words. I spent time observing space 7, the classroom for children one year of age. I observed the children and teachers sitting on carpet listening to music. The following items were monitored today: supervision, staff/child ratios, permit restrictions, license posted, approved space, storage of hazardous products, storage of medication, staff records and program records. There have been 6 new staff since my last visit. I monitored the new staff file. The staff and training worksheets were reviewed to confirm existing staff were still current with CPR, First Aid, ITS-SIDS training and criminal background qualifying letters. The center’s Emergency Drill Log and Report was reviewed. Fire drills were documented monthly as required. Shelter-in-place and Lock-Down drills were documented quarterly as required. The playground safety inspections were reviewed. There was 1 violation cited during today’s visit. The violation was corrected during the visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 1792 Staff did not model appropriate eating behaviors by consuming food or beverages that meet the nutritional requirements specified in the Meal Patterns for Children in Child Care Programs in the presence of children in care. In spaces #3 there was a teacher's Sprite and Duncan donuts drink. I spent time observing in space #2, the classroom for children 4 years of age. I observed the children engaged in a special music activity. The following items were monitored today: supervision, staff/child ratios, permit restrictions, license posted, approved space, storage of hazardous products, storage of medication, staff records and program records. There is 1 new staff since my last visit. I monitored the new staff file. The inspection was completed by the Mecklenburg County Health Department. The center last had a fire inspection on 10/13/22. There were 100 children in attendance today. The children were observed participating in transitions, routines, napping, breakfast, free play and outdoor play. The playground was monitored today. The facility does not provide transportation. All new staff files and ten percent of existing staff files were monitored today. Ten percent of the enrolled children’s files were monitored at random today. There was 1 violation cited today. Violation Number Comment Rule 842 A drug or medication was administered without written authorization and/or instructions from a child's parent or authorized health professional. All children's medication that required an action plan was on file. However, in space #8 a child's epi-pen was on the incorrect medication administering form. In space #5, there was no medication administering form for the prescribed cream for G. H. In space 10, a child's epi-pen was on the incorrect medication administering form. In space #2, a child's epi-pen was on the incorrect medication administering form.
