This center has a three-star license and an 18-month compliance history of 95%. The NC child care law summary were prominently posted. I was greeted by T. Porter, site coordinator in the cafeteria with no children present. She stated that the children were in the middle school gym playing basketball with a group leader. I reviewed the attendance sheets with Ms. Porter and she counted that a total of 26 children were present with the group leader. She stated that she comes over to cafeteria to open the door for parents to drop off their children. I shared with Ms. Porter that they were out of ratio with the 26 children and group leader in the middle school gym. It was also discovered during the visit that the middle school gym is not a licensed space for before/afterschool care. During the visit, Ms. Porter and the group leader went back to the approved cafeteria space. I conducted a walkthrough of the facility. I observed the children participating in basketball. The center’s Emergency Drill Log and Report was reviewed. Shelter in place and Lock down drills were monitored. The playground safety inspections were reviewed. Reports were documented monthly as required. The center last had a sanitation inspection on 2/14/24. The center received 5 demerits and a superior classification.
