The director, Amber, assisted me with today’s visit. We conducted a walk-through of the indoor and outdoor learning environments I observed groups of children engaged in free play or group time in their classrooms. I also observed children playing outside on the playground, infant meals and nap times. RATED LICENSE STATUS The program operates with a 4-star rated license issued on 4/25/23. They received 2 points in program standards, 7 points in staff education and one quality point through the programmatic option of having a staff benefit package and an infrastructure of parent involvement. Full rated license assessments will occur based on the program’s Cohort assignment; your program is in Cohort 3, therefore your assessment period would begin on or around July 1, 2026. You should begin preparing and planning for your assessment on or around July 1, 2025, if you wish to complete the Environment Rating Scales. You stated that your program completed an outreach assessment and received valuable feedback to help your prepare for the environment rating scales. You should also ensure that all staff have registered and have their education assessed in WORKS. It is recommended that you complete this process as part of your onboarding process with new hires and as existing staff members complete additional coursework. INSPECTIONS The last sanitation inspection was conducted 11/8/22. The last fire inspection was conducted 3/17/23. The last documented fire drill was conducted 10/31/23. The last documented shelter-in-place or lockdown drill was conducted 11/2/23. The last documented playground inspection was conducted 11/7/23. The status of the owner, Oak Village Academy at Holly Springs, LLC., is listed as current and active on the NC Secretary of State website. Full monitoring of child care requirements was assessed during today’s visit. The program does not transport children or enroll school aged children, therefore, these requirements were not assessed. The following violation was observed and recorded during today’s visit. Violation Number Comment Rule 843 A drug or medicine was administered after its expiration date. A child's epi pen expired in July 2023. 10A NCAC 09 .0803(1)(d) This violation is marked as corrected during the visit so a compliance letter is not required. COMPLIANCE HISTORY Prior to today’s visit, the program’s compliance history was 100%. TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE All medication past their expiration date should be sent home. Routinely checking medication, authorization forms and medical care plans will ensure that medication requirements are maintained. CONSULTATION There are new sanitation requirements effective 7/1/23. You should contact your Environmental Health Specialist or review their website for more information. The evacuation cribs in your classrooms for infants should not be used for storage to prevent a delay in evacuating children in the event of an emergency. AGENCY UPDATES Please remember to check the Division of Child Development and Early Education website: ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov frequently to stay updated on rule requirements.
