Donald Johnson, Principal was onsite but was unavailable during the visit due to assisting in classroom. This facility currently operates with a Five-Star license issued on March 22, 2018. The center's last annual compliance visit was completed on February 4, 2024. The last sanitation inspection was completed on April 20, 2025 earning a “Superior” classification and “0” demerits. The last fire inspection was completed on September 4, 2024. C. Harris and K. Wynn, Lead Teachers was present and available to assist. Thirty (30) children ages four (4) years old were present. Children were observed in eating breakfast, group time, teacher-directed activity, free choice activities, handwashing and toiletings, eating lunch. Lunch consisted of cheese pizza, broccoli, carrots, sliced apples, and milk. All staff did not interact with children in a positive manner. This facility participates in the NC PreK program and is owned and operated by the Vance County School System. The following violations of child care requirements were documented. Violation Number Comment Rule 106 Operator has not scheduled and obtained a fire inspection within 12 months of the previous inspection. Operator did not submit the original approved report to DCDEE within one week of the inspection visit on a form provided by the Division. Applicants who achieve a score of 80% or higher on the NC Early Childhood Equivalency Exam earn the new North Carolina Early Childhood Equivalency Certificate. This certificate is equivalent to a North Carolina Early Childhood Credential and will qualify the individual to be a lead teacher in an early childhood classroom. To take the exam, go to DCDEE Moodle and select Early Childhood Professional Development/Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF)/North Carolina Early Childhood Equivalency Exam. DCDEE WORKS: New staff that has not had their education evaluated will need to create a WORKS account by accessing our website under the provider tab, then click DCDEE WORKS. Once account is created, staff should upload or submit original transcripts or certificates to the division for evaluation of their education. Donald Johnson, Principal was onsite but was unavailable during the visit due to testing. This facility currently operates with a Five-Star license issued on March 22, 2018. The center's last annual compliance visit was completed on March 13, 2024. The last sanitation inspection was completed on September 25, 2024, earning a “Superior” classification and “0” demerits. The last fire inspection was completed on September 4, 2024, on the NC Public School Fire inspection form. C. Harris and K. Wynn, Lead Teachers was present and available to assist. Thirty-two (32) children ages four (4) and five (5) years old were present. Children were observed in free choice activities, handwashing and toiletings, eating lunch. Lunch consisted of Hot dogs, French fries, carrot sticks with dip, applesauce cup, and milk. All staff interacted with children in a positive manner. This facility participates in the NC PreK program and is owned and operated by the Vance County School System. The following violations of child care requirements were documented. Violation Number Comment Rule 106 Operator has not scheduled and obtained a fire inspection within 12 months of the previous inspection. Operator did not submit the original approved report to DCDEE within one week of the inspection visit on a form provided by the Division. Operator did not submit fire inspection within one week of inspection date. Fire inspection form was not filled out on DCDEE form by fire inspector. 10A NCAC 09 .0304(a) The above violations must be corrected immediately. The letter must describe, in detail, specifically how each violation has been corrected and any supporting documents. You can mail or email me verification of compliance regarding the violations that were documented. If you choose to mail, two signed and dated copies must be sent and received by November 13, 2024.
