A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today. This facility currently operates with a GS-110-106 Notice of Compliance re-issued on April 13, 2021. This facility is owned and operated by First Presbyterian Church Corporation of Greensboro. The facility is also NAEYC accredited. The accreditation will expire in May, 2026. The program is currently in the process of recertification. Upon arrival to the facility, I was greeted by the Administrator, Mrs. Lana Burske. Mrs. Burske assisted me during my visit today. A walk-thru of the indoor and outdoor spaces used by the children was monitored. Seventy-three (73) children were present during today’s visit. During today’s visit the children were observed playing in various activity areas, during outdoor play and during several transitions. Positive interaction was observed between the staff and the children. I monitored staff/ child ratios and supervision as I walked throughout the facility and found both in compliance. A sanitation inspection was conducted on September 15, 2025. This facility received a superior classification and nine (9) demerits. The last fire inspection was conducted on November 18, 2024. This facility’s corporation status was verified current on the NC Department of the Secretary of State on March 2, 2026. The following violations of childcare requirements were cited today: Violation Number Comment Rule 106 Operator has not scheduled and obtained a fire inspection within 12 months of the previous inspection. Operator did not submit the original approved report to DCDEE within one week of the inspection visit on a form provided by the Division. This facility has not had an inspection conducted in 2025. The last annual fire inspection was conducted in November, 2024. 10A NCAC 09 .0304(a) 849 Leftover medicines were not returned to the parent after the course of treatment was completed, after authorization was withdrawn or after authorization had expired and/or medication was not discarded within 72 hours of completion of treatment or withdrawal of authorization. Expired medication was left in the classroom for two enrolled children. .0803(12) Child Care facilities must maintain compliance with applicable childcare requirements at all times. In order to maintain compliance with North Carolina childcare laws and rules, the above violation must be corrected immediately. Please send a letter of compliance stating how the above violations were corrected and what you will do in the future to prevent these violations from being cited. Please email me this letter by March 16, 2026. --Mrs. Burkse stated she had to contact the Fire Inspector several times to get an inspection. They are scheduled to have a fire inspection completed in March, 2026. Please send me a copy of your fire inspection as soon as possible. CONSULTATION and TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE: Technical assistance regarding how to achieve and maintain compliance was offered. Health & Safety Requirements were also reviewed. MEDICATION: Medicines can be crucial to the health and wellness of children. They can also be very dangerous if the wrong type or wrong amount is given to the wrong person or at the wrong time. Prevention is the key to prevent poisoning by making sure medications are inaccessible to children. Prescribed medications as well as over the counter (OTC) medicines must be labeled properly when brought to the childcare facility by the parent/guardian. The medication must be in the original container (with a label that includes the child’s name, date filled, prescribing clinician’s name, pharmacy name and phone number, dosage/instructions, and relevant warnings). --During today’s visit we discussed the storage of medication, and the importance of having a system for monitoring the expiration dates of medication and action plans. You currently have a system that has been developed for tracking for each classroom, it is also recommended that the teachers complete monthly checks of their medications and medication forms to ensure compliance with DCDEE medication requirements. RATED LICENSE SYSTEM: You are currently operating under a Notice of Compliance and are not required to transition to the new QRIS system at this time due to your NAEYC accreditation. During today’s visit, I discussed the option of transitioning to a Star-Rated License under Pathway #3 (Accreditation / Head Start Pathway) should you choose to do so in the future. During our discussion, I reviewed several requirements that would need to be met in order to qualify for this transition. Mrs. Burske stated that at this time she is not interested in transitioning; however, she requested additional information regarding what the process would involve should the program decide to pursue this option at a later date. A document outlining the requirements and changes that would need to be implemented in order to transition to a Star-Rated License will be provided by the end of the week for your review. UPDATED RULES: For the latest information on childcare rules and regulations, please visit the Division of Child Development and Early Education's website at https://ncchildcare.ncdhhs.gov/ You were provided an opportunity to ask questions regarding interpretation and implementation of all child care requirements.
