I completed an Annual Compliance Monitoring Checklist for Centers during today’s visit, and a completed copy was emailed to you. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Mrs. Mary Anderson. Mrs. Anderson assisted me with the visit. The Administrator was not at the program. Seven children and two additional staff were present today. Children were observed resting and during transition activities. Children were being attended to according to their individual needs. The staff were observed to be engaged with the children and were positive in their interactions with the children. Your program currently operates with a five-star license, issued 6/20/2017. The last annual compliance visit was conducted on 5/7/2025. The sanitation inspection was completed 11/10/2025 with a superior classification. The last fire inspection was conducted on 08/26/2026 and your facility was approved. The center's compliance history was reviewed with the operator. The program’s compliance history was 100% as of 4/20/2026. The NC Secretary of State website was reviewed on 4/20/2026 and was listed as current- active. Required items were posted and current. I did not review children’s files or staff files. I monitored the outdoor environment and transportation. There were two items of non-compliance observed today. Violation Number Comment Rule 716 All stationary equipment, more than 18 inches high, was not installed over protective surfacing. Mulch has been ordered for the school age outdoor area. .0605(j) 1065 Child care providers scheduled to work in the infant room, did not complete ITS-SIDS training within two months of employment or did not complete the training every three years. Child care administrators did not complete the ITS-SIDS training within 90 days of employment and every three years thereafter. One staff member had an expired ITS-SIDS training. .1102(f) 1739 All records required were not available for review by a representative of the Division. The administrator was not at the facility. .2318(1-8) Child Care programs are expected to always achieve and maintain compliance and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. Violations documented above must be corrected immediately. A signed and dated letter of compliance must be emailed to me by 05/05/2026, describing how and when the violations were corrected and how compliance will be maintained in the future. Your letter should include facility name, facility ID, and original signature. Submit the signed letter electronically to my email address. If I do not receive your letter prior to 05/05/2026, a return visit to your program may be conducted to assess compliance with the violations. We discussed the following items of technical assistance today: Clean Classrooms for Carolina’s Kids- For information regarding lead in paint and asbestos testing. https://www.cleanwaterforuskids.org/en/carolina/ 1-888-997-9290. Lead in Water samples were taken on 2/19/2025. No results for Lead-Based Paint and Asbestos were available. All records required were not available for review by a representative of the Division. The administrator was not at the facility. Surfacing- Since children are exploring it is very important to provide a safe environment. All stationary equipment, more than 18 inches high, was not installed over protective surfacing. Upon arrival, I spoke with Ms. Scroggins by phone. She stated mulch has been ordered for the outdoor area. We discussed the following items today: Staff Education – Staff education is not updated in the Workforce Education Unit. Please ensure that all staff members’ education information is current in the W.O.R.K.S. database. Each staff member must register as soon as possible and have all their education uploaded and verified in WORKS. We cannot count education that has not been verified in WORKS. The Workforce Education Unit has recently updated and added resource documents to assist individuals with all Workforce Education Unit processes. This pathway was reviewed with the administrator by phone during the visit and the necessary information was emailed to the administrator. Application information will need to be submitted on or prior to 5/29/2026. You were provided with an opportunity to ask questions regarding interpretation and implementation of all child care requirements.
