NC-Pre-K requirements were also monitored. A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today. This program is operated by Guilford County Schools. This NC Pre-K currently operates with a Five Star license issued on March 19, 2019. This facility has one licensed space (room #517). Upon arrival, I was greeted by the classroom teachers Ms. Gray (Teacher) & Ms. Clay (Teacher Assistant). Ms. Gray assisted me during my visit today. I made you aware of the purpose of today’s visit. A sanitation inspection was conducted on September 18, 2024. This facility received eight (8) demerits and a superior rating. Monthly playground and fire drills have been conducted and documentation was available for review. Quarterly disaster drills have also been documented. Sixteen (16) children were present during today’s visit. All indoor and outdoor spaces used by the children were observed today. During today’s visit, I observed the children, during story time, outdoor time, bathroom routines, lunch time and rest time. I also observed the children completing bathroom and hand washing routines. The teachers interacted with the children in a pleasant manner. The following activity areas were available for the children, blocks, art, dramatic play, books/language, and manipulatives. There were enough materials available for at least three children and at least three related activities in each area. Along with these activity areas, there was a music, writing, science/math area and sand/water table available for the children. Staff and children’s records were reviewed today. The staff and training worksheet was updated during today’s visit. Your signature on these forms serves as verification the information provided is accurate and complete. All required posted information was observed current and posted in the classrooms. NC Pre-K requirements were also monitored during today’s visit. The following violation of child care requirements was cited today. Violation Number Comment Rule 721 All equipment and furnishings were not in good repair. There was a section of the fence observed that was not connected to the pole, the children were observed leaning on this area of the fence which caused the fence to buckle and bend. G.S. 110-91(6); .0601(b) Child Care facilities must maintain compliance with applicable childcare requirements at all times. In order to maintain compliance with North Carolina childcare laws and rules, the above violation must be corrected immediately. Please send a letter of compliance stating how the above violation was corrected and what you will do in the future to prevent this violation from being cited. Please email me this letter by October 16, 2024. ****EDUCATION POINTS: During today’s visit it was noted that your new teacher assistant has an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. I am going to see if I will be able to reevaluate your stars based on the increase in education. You could possibly earn a Five Star license. Item to complete: Please make sure Ms. Clay completes her Health & Safety training by January 2025 (she has 4 more classes to complete). ANNUAL TRAINING: Each year I will monitor training from the last school year. Please have this information available for review. **ANNUAL REMINDERS: As discussed during today’s visit the following items must be completed/updated annually. --Staff Records: Annual training, Emergency/Health questionnaire, review of EPR Plan and Emergency Care Plan review. --Children Records: Updated emergency information --These documents will be monitored for compliance during each annual compliance visit. Sample forms can be found on the DCDEE website. As a reminder, please make sure you update the Off-site verification forms for Staff and Children’s records each year, your Principal should sign these forms at the beginning of the school year. RATED LICENSE UPDATE: The Governor signed Senate Bill 425 (now Session Law 2024-34), Health and Human Services Omnibus Bill, which includes the Quality Rating Improvement System (QRIS) Modifications recommended to the Legislature by the NC Child Care Commission to update QRIS and create additional pathways for licensed child care facilities to earn star rated licenses. Hold Harmless provisions have been extended and star rated license assessments for licensed child care providers will be conducted by provider request only, until the QRIS rulemaking process has been completed. Star rated license assessments are still required for new child care programs. ****EDUCATION POINTS: During today’s visit it was noted that your new teacher assistant has an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education. The changes relate to definitions; lead and asbestos for centers and family child care homes; building requirements for family child care homes; multi-unit child care centers; and criminal background checks.
