Name of Operation: ANTIOCH CHILD CARE ACADEMY Facility ID: 96000317 Consultant: TAMEKA JOHNSON Operation Type: Center Case Number: Visit Date: 9/21/2023 Number Present: 14 Completed Date: 9/21/2023 Age: From 0 To 4 Total Minutes: 45 Time In: 11:45 AM Time Out: 12:30 PM Time In: Time Out: List to Use: Center Type Of Visit: Routine Unannounced Announced/Unannounced: Unannounced The purpose of today’s visit was to monitor applicable child care requirements during your routine unannounced visit. Upon my arrival I was greeted by the lead teacher A. Moore. Ms. Moore stated that the administrator, K. Tate, was in building one (1). I was unaccompanied as I completed a general walkthrough of the indoor environment which consisted of eight (8) classrooms and the outdoor environment. The children were observed during outdoor play, teacher directed activities and completing routine care tasks. Meals are catered and are in compliance with the Meal Patterns. ** License Status The facility is currently operating with a five-star license issued on July 12, 2017. ** Annual Inspections: The last sanitation inspection was completed July 26, 2023, and received a ‘Superior’ classification with 2 demerits. The last fire inspection was completed on December 12, 2022. The last documented fire drill was conducted on September 12, 2022, the last documented lockdown drill was completed on August 4 , 2023, and the last documented playground inspection was completed on September 1, 2023. Prior to today’s visit I reviewed the NC Secretary of State’s website and observed that the owner of this facility is listed current/active. During today’s visit, a partial assessment of Child Care Requirements was conducted. The monitoring included: supervision of children, staff/child ratio, storage of hazardous substances, storage of medicine, adequate/ approved space, posted license, license restrictions, attendance logs, program records and transportation. The following violations were observed, documented and technical assistance regarding maintaining compliance was offered. Violation Number Comment Rule 812 Electrical outlets and power strips, not in use, which were located in space used by children did not have safety outlets or were not covered with safety plugs unless located behind furniture or equipment that cannot be moved by a child. Outlet covers were missing in the bathroom located between classrooms 6 and 7. 10A NCAC 09 .0604(c) 1792 Staff did not model appropriate eating behaviors by consuming food or beverages that meet the nutritional requirements specified in the Meal Patterns for Children in Child Care Programs in the presence of children in care. Staff had an open can of energy drink on the shelf. .0901(i) Violations were corrected during today’s visit therefore no compliance letter is needed. During today’s visit, I observed that only two classrooms were open space 6 and 7 in building two (2). Mr. Tate stated that he did not have enough teachers to open up the other six (6) classrooms. He is doing maintenance on the six (6) classrooms that are not open. Technical Assistance/Consultation: We discussed during today’s visit that your facility is in cohort one. As a reminder beginning in July and throughout the next few months, I recommend you consider completing the following tasks and activities that will help prepare you for your reassessment year, which will be sometime between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. If possible, we will align the reassessment with your annual compliance visit timeframe. Have all staff update WORKS accounts to reflect all currently completed coursework (DCDEE-WORKS). You have determined that you wish to have Environment Rating Scale (ERS) Assessments [ITERS-R, ECERS-R}. You stated that you have received technical assistance from Ms. Toler from Wages. Consider requesting an ERS assessment (free of charge) during the preparation year. Remember the scores can be used in a variety of ways. ERS assessments can be requested during the preparation year and scores can be used as guidance to enhance program quality. If desired, assessment scores can be used during the preparation year if you want to move forward with a rated license reassessment. Assessment scores can be saved to use during the reassessment year. Facilities can request another ERS assessment (free of charge) in your reassessment year for any ERS assessment scoring less than a 5.0. Prior to today’s visit the 18-month compliance history was 92%. Please continue to visit the DCDEE website for the latest information and updates. If I can be of any assistance, I can be reached at 252-326-1867 or by email tameka.b.johnson@dhhs.nc.gov. If the operator fails to correct any documented violations within the established time period, the Division of Child Development and Early Education may deny, suspend, terminate, or revoke any permit to operate (10A NCAC 09 .2000). All information in this report has been reviewed with me today.I understand that it is my responsibility to maintaincompliance with applicable NC Child Care Requirements at all times
