During today's visit I met with Sherri Cummins, Owner/Operator and Kaylie Cummins, Assistant was present. During today's visit the children were observed during art and other creative play activities with playdough and reading books. The children were all cared for in an age-appropriate manner. A sampling of children's files were reviewed and in compliance. The last fire drill was recorded on 3/19/26 at 1:55pm with 2 minutes and 4 seconds evacuation time. The last playground inspection was recorded on 3/3/26. All required items were posted, there was no lesson plan available for review. Mats were stored with mats and linens all touching each other in 2 pack-n-play beds. The following violations were cited during today's visit: Violation Number Comment Rule 1962 Activity plans did not include activities intended to stimulate the developmental domains, in accordance with NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development. There was no activity plan to show these activities. 10A NCAC 09 .1718(a)(8)(A)(i-iv) 2055 An individual sleeping space for resting such as a bed, crib, play pen, cot, mat, or sleeping bag with individual linens was not provided for each pre-school age child who was in care for four hours or more, or for all children if overnight care is provided. Bedding was stored all piled on top of each other and not kept individually. 10A NCAC 09 .1718(a)(2) We discussed the following items of technical assistance: -Weekly or monthly lesson plans for the group of children must be available for review by the parents and any DCDEE Representative. You can find blank lesson plans on our DCDEE website under the provider documents tab. Lesson plans must be current and include age appropriate activities in the required NC Foundations Domains. You can use to the NC Foundations book that I left you and/or it is available for free on our DCDEE website. You can also refer back to the Pre-licensing Workshop slides talking about requirements for activities, lesson plans and using the NC Foundations. -Mats/bedding must be stored in a sanitary manner where the bedding is not touching other child's bedding. You can either remove the bedding and wipe down the mats everyday or you can use different bedding that folds and store it so the area that children sleep on does not touch other items. The following items of consultation were discussed during today's visit: -Sherri Cummins requested to have the license age range change to children 2 years old and up only. -We discussed questions that you had about discipline. -You are not wanting to apply for the voluntary rated license and stated that you only wish to have a One Star license. This means that you must still meet minimum requirements but do not have to meet any enhanced requirements. Your violations must be corrected immediately and a compliance letter must be received no later than 4/23/26, stating how the violations were corrected. Please email me the compliance letter to mary.mcmillan@dhhs.nc.gov Your 1 star license paperwork will be submitted once your violations have been corrected and your compliance letter is received.
