The previous Annual Compliance Visit was completed April 17, 2024, and prior to today’s visit, the eighteen-month compliance history score was at 100%. This program currently operates with a Four -Star License issued March 26, 2020. The License was based on the program earning seven points in education standards, two points in program standards, and one quality point by choosing to meet an education option for: Has completed a business training course of at least 30 clock hours. The information on record with DCDEE was verified as correct by Ms. Sonya Simmons, Owner/Operator and the owner’s corporation status was verified on the Secretary of State’s website as current-active. Current Inspections are as follows: Sanitation Classification of Superior completed September 26, 2025. Ms. Simmons was present and accompanied me while observing the indoor areas. Upon arrival, there was one child present. The caregiver worked with the child and helped the child to draw letters. After the learning activities, the child came to the table for lunch. Lunch is brought from home by the parents. The most recent fire drill was completed on December 03, 2025, and the most recent lockdown drill was completed July 08, 2025. A violation was cited today for the 3-month drill. The most current monthly outdoor inspection was completed on December 03, 2025. At the completion of the visit, the Visit Summary was reviewed with Ms. Simmons. The following violation was observed. Violation Number Comment Rule 1854 The operator did not conduct a quarterly lockdown or shelter-in-place drill and or the drill record was incomplete. The last quarterly drill lockdown drill was completed July 8, 2025. This was corrected when the caregiver conducted the shelter in place drill during today's visit. .1719(a )(16) & .1721(e )(7) Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. The violation observed and documented today may impact the compliance history score. The violation observed and documented today was corrected during the visit. A compliance letter is not required. Facility Specific TA/Consultation/Reminders : Observations: You can visit http://csefel.vanderbilt.edu/ for resources to help manage behaviors and provide strategies to help your non-verbal children. This website is the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning (CSEFEL) that focuses on promoting the social emotional development and school readiness of young children birth to age 5. There are books that can be printed out and utilized in your facility to help manage children’s behaviors. For example, Tucker Turtle Takes Time to Tuck and Think. There are some resources and training that are free of charge. The steps to access the resources are located on the main page, select For Teachers and Caregivers, and then you will see the option for the book to print. Once you print the book, the staff can utilize sheet protectors and use a binder. It may be best to print a cover page and add on the front of the binder. For additional accessories, provide a soft turtle to use as a prop. The staff members can place these items in the cozy area as a way for the children to transition when he or she is having a difficult moment. The book promotes strategies for helping young children manage behaviors when they are upset. Pathways: Today we discussed the Classroom Instructional Pathway and the requirements. The child was using the toys in the sandbox and filling them with sand. After playing in the sandbox the child played on the airplane. After outdoor play, handwashing routines were completed. Lunch served was ham and cheese sandwich, potatoes, mixed fruit, and milk. The FCCH Statements of Responsibility form was completed. The most recent fire drill was completed on October 09, 2024, and the most recent shelter in place drill was completed September 09, 2024. The most current monthly outdoor inspection was completed on October 08, 2024. At the completion of the visit, the Visit Summary was reviewed with Ms. Simmons. The following violation was observed: Violation Number Comment Rule 1544 The child care operator did not comply with all State laws, federal laws and/or local ordinances that pertain to child health, safety, and welfare, as required by General Statute 110-91. The last sanitation inspection was dated for October 16, 2023. The sanitation inspection was not completed, one year from the last completed date. GS 110-91 Child Care programs are expected to achieve and maintain compliance at all times and are required by NC GS 110-90(4) (d) to achieve and maintain an eighteen-month compliance history score of at least seventy-five percent. The violation observed and documented today may impact the compliance history score. The violation observed and documented today must be corrected immediately. Additionally, by 5:00pm on November 19, 2024, you must submit a written, dated, and signed statement to me. The statement must describe accurately and in detail, how and when the violations were corrected.
