The previous annual compliance visit was conducted on November 15, 2023. The eighteen-month compliance history score prior to today’s visit was 98% which exceeds requirements as outlined in North Carolina General Statute 110-90(4)(c-d). This program currently operates with a four (4) Star License issued November 17, 2023. The license was based on the program earning seven (7) points in education standards, two (2) points in program standards, and one quality point by choosing to meet an educational option: The child care administrator has at least 10 years of documented child care administration work experience in a licensed program. The information on record with DCDEE was verified as correct by Darlene Shaw. Current Inspections are as follows: Sanitation Classification of superior completed April 22, 2024. Fire Classification of approved for daytime and overnight care completed January 3, 2024. Darlene Shaw and Sherita Wright, Administrators, were present and accompanied me while observing the indoor and outdoor areas. I observed preschool-aged children engaged in free choice activities in interest centers both indoors and outdoors. Children in space #1 were engaged in playing with knobbed puzzles, building towers with soft vinyl blocks, playing with farm animals, and filling/dumping toys in containers. The teacher sang The Wheels on the Bus to children as she shared a toy school bus with the children, engaging them in the song. In space #3/4, I observed children playing with dress-up clothes, dolls, and cooking pretend meals in dramatic play. A group of children played with toy dinosaurs, farm animals, and plastic insects on the carpeted floor. Teachers were observed sitting on the floor and engaged on conversations with children, guiding their play. During outdoor play, children climbed on stationary equipment, rode rockers, and played in the playhouses. Upon return indoors, staff assisted children with completing diapering, toileting, and hand washing routines in preparation for mealtime. Lunch, prepared and served by the cook, consisted of hotdog on wheat bun, baked beans, pineapple, and milk. Following lunch, teachers read and discussed a book with children about colors. A checklist was used to note the requirements I monitored today. The Staff and Training Worksheet was received November 4, 2024 and updated during today’s visit. The Children’s Record worksheet was completed for three (3) children’s files monitored. The most current fire drill was conducted November 1, 2024 and a lockdown drill on October 10, 2024. The monthly playground inspection was completed on November 1, 2024. At the completion of the visit, the Visit Summary was reviewed with D. Shaw.
